Hurricane Season Preparedness*

With hurricane season underway, now is a good time to review your practice’s plans for potential power loss and flooding. Here are a few simple steps to help you stay prepared:

  • Plan for Refrigerated Medications and Vaccines: Ensure you know your emergency plan for vaccines and refrigerator storage should your location lose power.
  • Monitor Thermostats: Keep track of temperature settings to safeguard sensitive materials.
  • Prepare for Flooding: Move important equipment off the floor to prevent water damage.
  • Patient Communication: Inform patients of your plans, alternate care options, and ways to avoid unnecessary ER visits.
  • Stay Connected: Update your answering service and ensure your inclement weather employee phone tree is current.
  • Insurance and Contacts: Have copies of business insurance policies, along with contact info for your broker, building manager, and maintenance team.
  • Print Schedules: In case of a prolonged power outage, print patient schedules to manage appointments manually.
