We have some important updates about payor updates, new programs, and upcoming events. There's a lot of information, and we want to keep you informed. Please read through this email carefully and let us know if you have any questions.

Important Updates

Website Accessibility Compliance Deadline Extended to 2027

The compliance deadline for the federal Section 504 website accessibility requirements has been extended to 2027, providing practices with additional time to ensure their websites are accessible to individuals with disabilities, including those who are blind or visually impaired.

Website accessibility improvements may include compatibility with screen readers, alternative text for images, keyboard navigation, appropriate color contrast, and other features that make online information accessible to all patients.

To better understand where practices stand, Kids Health First recently surveyed members regarding their website compliance efforts. While a small number of respondents reported that their websites are already compliant, most indicated that they have not yet completed the required updates. Several practices shared the website management companies they are working with as they prepare for compliance.

If your practice has not yet begun planning for these updates, now is a good time to speak with your website vendor and develop a timeline to ensure compliance before the new deadline.

Be Prepared: Updated Cyber Event Response Guide Available

Cybersecurity incidents can happen without warning, making preparation essential for every medical practice. Sterling Seacrest Pritchard has released an updated Cyber Event Procedure Guide that outlines the critical steps practices should take both before and after a suspected cyber incident.

The guide recommends preparing in advance by:

Maintaining appropriate cyber insurance coverage.
Completing annual HIPAA security risk assessments and staff training.
Conducting penetration testing.
Designating primary breach contacts and maintaining up-to-date emergency contact information.
Identifying backup practices that can care for patients if your office must temporarily close.

If a cyber event is suspected, the guide provides a clear response plan, including immediately notifying designated breach contacts, contacting legal counsel and cyber insurance representatives, alerting your IT vendor, preserving communications, and following established breach response procedures. It also includes guidance for communicating with patients, staff, and the media while the incident is being investigated.

Every practice should review this resource with its leadership team and incorporate the recommendations into its emergency preparedness plan before an incident occurs.
