KHS UPDATES
Student Schedules:
Schedules were released in Infinite Campus for students and parents to view. If you have questions or would like to request a schedule change, please stop in the Guidance office to see your counselor. Counselors will not be available to meet on Tuesday, August 12, due to District-wide Professional Development. The Drop/Add window for schedule changes will close on the 5th day of school, which is Wednesday, August 20.
Cell Phones:
The use of cell phones in Ohio schools during instructional times is prohibited. Cell phones and other electronic devices present distractions and disruptions to the learning process. This means there will be no use of cell phones from 7:43 am to 2:18 pm at KHS. Student phones shall be turned off and stored away in their clear backpacks or their lockers. In addition to cell phones, listening devices such as AirPods, earbuds, and headphones are also prohibited during school hours.
Any use of these devices during instructional hours will result in a violation of school rules and the confiscation of the device. The confiscated device will be safely stored in the main office until a parent arranges to pick it up. The hours for pick-up will be 7:00 am to 7:30 am or 2:30 pm to 3:15 pm. Students may use the school phone located in the main office for any immediate communication needed throughout the day.
School-issued Chromebooks:
For internet security reasons, student Chromebooks will be the designated learning device used by all students. Personal laptops or tablets shall not be used, as these devices are not secure. They may also have messaging applications installed, which again present distractions or disruptions to learning.
Lockers/Backpacks:
Students should use their lockers to store academic supplies as well as jackets, lunches, and extracurricular bags. Only clear backpacks shall be carried throughout the day for obvious safety and security measures.
Dress Code:
The KHS dress code will be enforced on a daily basis. Any clothing with an improper fit shall not be permitted. Clothing should be constructed and worn in a safe manner that is not unduly revealing or distracting. This includes pajama garments, both tops and bottoms. Clothing must be of appropriate length and size, covering shoulders to the waist and waist to the mid-thigh. Hats and hoods will not be permitted during school hours.
Extracurricular/Clubs:
KHS extracurricular clubs and academic activities are a valued experience for all students. A list of many active clubs will be shared with students during the first week of school. All meetings and events will be held either before or after school. A monthly calendar of the meeting times will be shared on the student portal. This calendar will allow students to plan ahead on specific meeting days to make sure they have a ride home. Student athletes who have practice after school are still encouraged to participate in the extracurricular activities. Coaches will be aware of these meeting times and will make accommodations for you when needed.
Drop off/Pick up:
The area around the flagpole is the only drop-off and pick-up zone. The extra lane created around the flagpole has made drop-offs and pick-ups very efficient. We ask parents to still drive with caution, following the pavement arrows and the guided signs that help direct traffic.
Breakfast:
Breakfast will be available for all students in grades 8 to 12 from 7:15 am to 7:40 am. A hot meal entree is available daily, along with a selection of various grab-and-go style options (both hot and cold) and drinks as well. Click here to find the KHS Menu.
Lunches:
Lunches have been extended in order to accommodate the new bell schedule. Students have plenty of time to enjoy their lunch in the cafeteria while also having time for some activity or time for studying. Click here to find the KHS Menu.
Yearbook:
The KHS Yearbook is a grade 8 to 12 publication. Yearbook order forms were included in the student packets distributed during packet pick up.
Census Verification:
Please be sure to complete the annual Census Verification form through Infinite Campus. We kindly remind you to provide your child's cell phone number when completing the Census Verification. Student updates, reminders, and important information can now be shared via text messaging directly to our students.
Medication Drop Off:
If you have medication to be dropped off, you can do so beginning on Monday, August 11, between the hours of 8 am and 2 pm.
If you need to schedule a different time to drop off medication, please contact Mrs. DiMarco in the KHS Clinic at 440-543-9821, Ext. 2900.
Senior Meningococcal Vaccine:
All seniors are required to have proof of their 2nd dosage of the Meningococcal Vaccine (MCV4) on file in the Clinic by the 14th day of school, which is Wednesday, September 3. Without proper documentation, students will not be able to attend school. All documentation should be sent to the KHS clinic or scanned and emailed to Mrs.Terry DiMarco, terry.dimarco@kenstonapps.org. Seniors who are exempt from any vaccinations must complete the immunization waiver form and submit it by Thursday, September 5.
Parking Permits:
Parking permits will be available to purchase at the main office for $40.00. A copy of a valid driver's license must be attached for completion of the application. Click here to print the Parking Permit Application.
Cavanaugh Photography:
Cavanaugh Photography will be present for school photos on Friday, September 19, during the school day. All students must be photographed to have an updated school ID (no charge). A digital picture form will be shared for ordering purposes prior to the date.
Seniors: Cavanaugh Photography is offering a FREE special “Senior Mini Session” on Monday, October 6 at KHS. This one-time special offer includes a free session (no sitting fee), four background stations for different looks, an available cap/gown, and the picture will be submitted to the yearbook. This photo may be used in the yearbook or at Commencement, so please dress in business professional attire. All photos can be ordered online if you choose to purchase them, but no purchase is necessary. More detailed information will be shared as the date approaches.
If you have further questions on any of these or any other topics, please do not hesitate to contact the KHS main office at 440-543-9821.
