Great Scott! It's the Great Give! Now through April 16
|
Magical things happen at Kitsap Humane Society every day. Lives are saved, animals are rescued, and families are kept together. You can help make magic happen by donating to KHS through the Kitsap Great Give - and get us to our fundraising goal of $40,000!
The Kitsap Great Give is a 24-hour “give-day” event that unites our community through a special online donation platform to support the many nonprofit organizations - like KHS - that make Kitsap a great place to live for all of us.
In a single day, more than $2 million dollars can be invested in the direct support of our community through donations from individuals, businesses, and organizations to a wide variety of nonprofit organizations. Last year, the event generated $1.47 million from 3,188 donors through 7,140 gifts to support 364 local nonprofit organizations.
Presented by the Kitsap Community Foundation and the United Way of Kitsap County, this annual community movement of generosity has resulted in more than $15 million in community support since 2014.
And while the actual day isn't until April 16, you can make an early donation right now! By donating to Kitsap Humane Society, you'll be helping us care for thousands of animals each year, support pets and their people in need, and keep families together. Show your support by donating today!

Shower the Kittens You Love with Love
|
You're invited to Kitsap Humane Society's first ever Kitten Shower - Sunday, April 7 at 4:30 p.m. and presented by our incredible foster team!
Kitten season is almost upon us and we're gearing up for an influx of cuteness entering our shelter as the weather gets warmer! To handle all of these tiny felines, we rely on our dedicated foster parents and support from the community to care for the smallest of kittens until they are ready to find loving homes.
Those interested in becoming foster parents or learning how to help support kittens in need this season are encouraged to attend! We'll have light refreshments, cute kittens, games, prizes, and more!
Just like your traditional baby shower, attendees are asked to choose a gift off our baby registry (otherwise known as our Amazon Foster Wishlist!) to fill our Kitten Krib with essential supplies, but we welcome any kitten-specific wet or dry food and non-clumping cat litter.
Come join in the fun!

Our Puppuccino Pal for April - Tractor Supply!
|
This beautiful girl is Queen B and she'd like to thank Tractor Supply of Silverdale for being our Puppuccino Pal sponsor for April!
Tractor Supply has been an extraordinary friend to KHS, donating tools, hosting events, and just generally being great supporters of the animals in our care. And this Saturday, April 6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., they're at it again, putting on another adoption event to find homes for our pups and kittens - come in and say "hi!"
And if you'd like to adopt the very sweet and gentle Queen B, please visit her adoption page to learn more!

The Outpouring of Support is Inspiring!
|
Every month, we get emails and phone calls from people asking "how can we help KHS?" It's those conversations that lead to our meeting the kindest people and hearing about their connections to and love for Kitsap Humane Society. In the month of March alone, we had three amazing groups visit campus and donate goods.
Gig Harbor Montessori third-graders collected items that were on our wish list, and drove from Pierce County to Kitsap to tour the campus, filled Kongs, and made treat tubes for dogs. When the students left for the day, every dog in our care had a full belly of peanut butter and some extra love from some very thoughtful students. How grateful we are for Gig Harbor Montessori!
The Anzelini family and friends came in for a visit, driving all the way up from Chehalis! They learned about us through a family friend, and wanted to see our shelter and were blown away by all that we do. They even brought a donation for the shelter!
From November through March, the Bremerton Senior Center gathered items off our wish list and collected monetary donations. Fourteen seniors even traveled from Manette and spent the afternoon meeting the animals (pictured above with our beloved volunteer Molly and her friend Shelby). Among this great group of guests, were several former KHS volunteers and foster families. Thanks everyone!

Colonel Mustard.
In the Library. With a Bone.
This is Colonel Mustard, the sweetest 3-year-old Staffy mix you'll ever meet! He came into the shelter underweight, but filled out quite nicely and is ready to find a new family (and he's great with kids!). He's crate trained and loves to make new friends, cuddle on the couch, and go for jogs. And his signature wiggle dance will make you fall in love immediately. C'mon in and see if the Colonel is the right guy for you!

Hercules! Hercules!
Hercules is a sweet (and large) but timid 5-year-old kitty with a heart of gold. When you first meet him, he might seem a bit shy and withdrawn, but he's got so much love to give once he warms up to you! He's going to thrive in a calm and quiet environment, so a home with children over 6 would suit him best. Loud noises and sudden movements can startle him, but with a little patience and understanding, he'll blossom into the loving companion you've been searching for. Come visit him and find out if he's the big boy for you!

Run. Stroll. Jog a Dog. It's PetsWALK!
|
Join your Kitsap Humane Society friends on June 1 for our favorite event of the year - PetsWALK!
Presented by VCA Central Kitsap Animal Hospital, it's a summertime celebration for the whole family and great fun for you and your furry buddies. The 5K course is a mostly flat jaunt that winds through Poulsbo, ending at Muriel Iverson Williams Waterfront Park and a bustling downtown vendor fair. And there's a one-mile course option if the trek is just too far for your four-legged friend! The day is capped off with food, fun, and live music on the waterfront stage, and of course, adorable adoptable animals.
Visit the PetsWALK website to register and to learn how you can help us meet our $40,000 fundraising goal in the run-up to race day (and win prizes!). Join a team or captain a team - your generous support provides comfort and expert medical care to thousands of animals in Kitsap County so that each pet can be strong, healthy, and adopted into loving homes!

It's been said that March comes "in like a lion and out like a lamb." All we know is a lot of dogs and cats and other critters came through our doors during the month.
Thank you to all the animal care professionals who helped prepare them for a new home, the volunteers that ensure that the dogs were walked and the cats were cuddled, and especially the people who opened their homes to new family members, including the lovely Black Diamond family who adopted our friend Hank and welcomed him to their 10-acre farm (see video here).
In March, 211 pets found loving homes including 103 cats, 58 dogs, 15 kittens, 22 puppies, 3 rabbits, 7 fowl, 2 guinea pigs, and 1 rat named "Paula Stanley." Rock on!
If you've recently adopted a new family member from KHS, we'd love to hear more! Submit your KHS alum's Happy Tail for a chance to have them featured across our social media platforms!
