Dear Friends and Colleagues,

As the new year begins, I write to thank you for all you do in service to Catholic Charities and to share my plans for 2021.

March 3rd marks the 13th anniversary of my tenure as Executive Director of Catholic Charities. It has been my honor and privilege to serve Catholic Charities for these past 13 years and to partner with each of you in service to the needy and the vulnerable in our community. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of so many!

This year, March 3rd will also mark the official commencement of my retirement as well as my final day at Catholic Charities. The Diocesan Human Resources Office has contracted with an executive recruiting firm to assist with the search for a new Executive Director. Until the search has been completed, Fritz Jones will serve as Interim Executive Director.

It has been my esteemed pleasure to serve with each one of you. I am very proud of the work we have done together and I am grateful for your dedication to the mission of Catholic Charities.

Thank you for the opportunity to be of service.
In gratitude,

Richelle A.Vible
Executive Director
Help Us "Stock the Pantry" During Our Food Drive!
Catholic Charities Stock the Pantry Drive is gearing up. We currently serve over 3,000 households each year. In a single month, we distribute over 10,000 pounds of food through our food pantries and cooperative programs. We have an extra need going into 2021 to re-stock our pantries, due to higher than normal distributions over the recent holiday season.

Now through February, Catholic Charities locations will accept the following donations:
Nonperishable food, such as: canned meats, soups, fruits, and vegetables; boxes of pasta, cereal, baking mixes; jars of peanut butter and jelly; coffee, tea, powdered milk. We also welcome donations of cleaning products, dish detergent, paper goods, and personal care items like shampoo and soap.

In addition to nonperishable food and grocery store gift cards, Catholic Charities accepts monetary donations which help us purchase any additional food to fill bags for distribution. Each distribution is valued at $50.

Catholic Charities accepts donations at its locations Mon-Fri between 9am - 4pm.

Apply for Energy Assistance...Appointments Still Available
The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), administered in Delaware by Catholic Charities, continues to accept applications for the current heating season. This federally funded program assists low-income Delawareans with heating bills through direct payments to home energy suppliers. The LIHEAP benefit is based on a household's income, size, and type of fuel. In order to apply, you must call the Catholic Charities office closest to you and schedule an appointment. You must reapply each year for the benefit.

If you are eligible for LIHEAP, you also may qualify for other programs that require LIHEAP eligibility. For example, if your home is not as energy efficient as it could be, you may qualify for home weatherization improvements through the Delaware Weatherization Assistance Program, administered by Catholic Charities in Kent and Sussex Counties.

Catholic Charities Mission
Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Wilmington exists to help fulfill the Christian duty to love and serve God's people. Our mission is rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The universal and local Church proclaims the Gospel and teaches the recognition of the dignity and sacredness of each human life and the belief that we are called to share our resources with the most vulnerable among us.

It is the mission of Catholic Charities to address human suffering and to promote and restore the well-being of people and society by:
  • Providing, as a primary focus, caring service to families and persons in need;
  • Coming together with members of the community to become informed about and to take action on critical social issues; and,
  • Advocating publicly for social policies which enhance human dignity and safeguard basic human rights.
