KID was officially incorporated on June 9, 1998, after the death of Danny Keysar, kickstarting 25 years of dedicated work in children's product safety. Our work has brought about many hard-fought victories, including the 2008 Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act and Danny's Law. More recently, we worked to get the CPSC to establish a rule requiring that any infant sleep product meet a safety standard before it can be sold. We also launched the KID Design Safety Toolkit - a free online course to provide entrepreneurs and children's products companies with the information they need to design, develop, and market products more safely. At the local level, we continue to provide parents and caregivers with life saving resources and have recently started providing our monthly recall digests in Spanish. Last month, in recognition of all the work KID, has done the city of Chicago passed a Resolution and Rep. Jan Schakowsky introduced an Extension of Remarks in Congress congratulating KID on our 25th anniversary (pictured). Watch this short video for KID highlights and milestones over the past 25 years. Please consider making a donation in honor of our 25th anniversary.
Hey, Chat GPT: Summer Recalls
We’ve all heard a lot about AI and tools like Chat GPT, so we decided to put it to the test to see what AI safety advice would look like. Summer's here and with the days getting warmer, we are all looking for fun-filled adventures and activities. Many of us are dusting off equipment and toys that could have been recalled since they've been last used. We turned to ChatGPT for advice on what caregivers should look out for when it comes to product recalls in the summer season in our blog series, Hey, Chat GPT: Summer Safety Watch. Subscribe to KID's blog to get notifications for new blog posts.
Spot KID In Your Community this Summer
Look out for KID this summer at the many community and resource fairs we will be attending. Chat with KID staff and volunteers and get to know the new safety materials we have available for all caregivers. We will have booths at:
Children’s Home and Aid Community Resource Fair - June 24 (Chicago Cultural Center)
ECHO Family Enrichment Program's Summer Resource Fair - July 6 (South Holland)
We also continue to offer both in-person and virtual presentations of our safety workshop, Safe from the Start, both in English and Spanish. If you know a group or agency that would like to request a workshop or educational materials, please email us atsahiti@kidsindanger.org.
KID's annual Best Friends Night was held on May 23 at the Gleacher Center in Chicago, commemorating KID's 25th anniversary. The night featured appetizers and drinks by Wolfgang Puck Catering, raffle, silent and live auctions, wine toss, and more. Typically our event is called the Best Friend Award Night, but this year we celebrated everyone who has supported us over the years. The event recognized KID’s achievements over the past 25 years. Thank you to everyone who attended, sponsored, or made a donation. View photos from the event on Flickr. If you missed the event, you can watch KID founders Linda Ginzel and Boaz Keysar's remarks on YouTube, and you can make a donationin honor of KID's 25th anniversary to help us save lives.
