Kicking Off a New Fiscal Year with Gratitude and Big News Ahead

Dear Friends and Supporters,

As we step into July, we also step into a brand-new fiscal year here at Keep McIntosh Beautiful. I want to take a moment to thank each and every one of you—our volunteers, members, donors, board members, and community partners—for your continued support. Together, we’re making a real and lasting impact on the beauty, health, and vitality of McIntosh County.

In our August newsletter, we’ll be sharing our annual report to Keep America Beautiful—a detailed look at just how much we've accomplished this past year. From the tons of litter and debris removed, to the number of tires collected, and the miles of roads, rivers, and public spaces cleaned—the final numbers are truly astonishing. When all the hard work is compiled into one report, it really shows what a difference we can make when we work together.

We’ll also be presenting this important data at two upcoming public meetings:

·   McIntosh County Commissioners Meeting: August 12 at 10:00 AM

·   City of Darien Council Meeting: September 16 at 5:30 PM

We’d love for you to attend and help us celebrate the progress we’ve made as a community.

Also coming up next month: we’ll introduce you to our dedicated Board of Directors, who help guide our mission and bring incredible energy and leadership to our work. You won’t want to miss it—so stay tuned!

If you haven’t already, now is a great time to become a member, a volunteer, or a partner. Together, we can build a cleaner, greener, and more vibrant coastal community for all who live, work, and visit here.

With gratitude and optimism,

Tracy Sanford

New Swag Alert

Our Keep McIntosh Beautiful cups are more than just cool, they're color-changing! These green-to-blue beauties shift shade when hot or cold... but we like to think they stand for something more.

Green = Growth, nature and beauty we're working to protect.

Blue = Waterways, clean coastlines, and the reason we try to keep litter out of our rivers and marshes.

Whether you're sipping an iced tea on the dock or coffee on a cleanup morning, you're repping a mission that matters.

PRESS RELEASE:

ABANDONED BUILDING PROGRAM

Looking for a way to remove an abandoned building or mobile home from your property? Keep McIntosh Beautiful may be able to help.

Dilapidated and abandoned buildings are eyesores that detract from our community’s appearance and reduce the value of the property where they are located. They can also be unsafe and unhealthy nuisances that are locations for criminal activity.

To address the problem in McIntosh County, KMB offers financial assistance to OWNERS for the demolition and removal of abandoned buildings from THEIR property. We salvage and recycle what can safely be removed.

STRUCTURES MUST BE LOCATED IN MCINTOSH COUNTY, UNOCCUPIED, AND BEYOND REPAIR TO QUALIFY.

Thank you to the many dedicated partners that help with this program. You are appreciated!

You can’t recycle greasy pizza boxes—but the clean lid? Totally recyclable!

Always check before you chuck. A little effort = a cleaner McIntosh.

Enjoy sweet summertime, McIntosh!

We hope you're soaking up the sunshine and making the most of these beautiful days. But don’t forget to mark your calendars —

COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS with SHERIFF T.K. KING & the McIntosh County Sheriff’s Office

  • Great turnout!
  • Great food (Y’all know if T.K. hosts, there’s going to be a spread—chicken, pasta, green beans, peach cobbler and more!)
  • Even better conversation

Sheriff King and his command staff answered real, tough questions with honesty and heart. He said it best himself: “My word is my bond.” When a sheriff holds these talks in a church and means every word, you know it’s coming from a place of true commitment to this community.

They can’t fix what they don’t know. So show up. Speak up. Let’s work together to keep building the kind of McIntosh we all want and love to live in.

 Next Up:

July 31

6-8 PM

Prospect Baptist Church, 1033 Smith Road, Crescent,

Did you know that most litter in McIntosh eventually finds its way into our waterways?

Every bottle cap, plastic bag, or can tossed on the ground can end up harming fish, birds, and marine life.

What you can do:

— Always secure your trash when out on the water

— Try to keep the storm drains near you free of debris

— Join or organize a cleanup, even 10 minutes makes a difference

— Say no to single-use plastics when you can

Let’s protect our beautiful rivers and marshes, one small action at a time.

A BIG THANKS TO ALL OF OUR ADOPT-A HIGHWAY, PARK OR SPOT VOLUNTEERS THROUGHOUT MCINTOSH COUNTY! Please send me pictures of your pickups. You'll inspire others! There are still plenty of miles and places needing some TLC. Please consider making this a way you help keep our community clean, green and beautiful!
