Challenge Accepted! The KM Boys Cross Country team took home a second-place finish amongst 14 teams at the Blackshirt Challenge this weekend. That team was led by Cade Ziegler setting a new PR of 17:45, joining the sub-18-minute club. Also medaling with Cade as individuals were Noah Straka and Mike Wawrzyn. Rounding out the runners-up team were Rogan Leistiko, Alex Melgares, Jackson Braun, Jack Wagner, and Nick Beilfuss. While so many runners had a great race, a shout out to Ryan Keller, Elijah Kolstad-Woods, Conrad Dierks, and Jack Behn who raced in their first-ever 5K. A fantastic way to start the season Lasers! The boys will compete this Thursday at Arrowhead if you want to come to watch what will be an electric race.
KM Varsity Girls Cross Country took 2nd place in the 13 team Blackshirt Challenge hosted by Waukesha South on Saturday.

It's so fun to have our Trivia questions back! Congratulations to Jessica Keller, Ava Sander, and Lizz Shields as well as Ms. McLean (teacher) for correctly answering our questions:
  1. Observed on the first Monday in September, Labor Day is an annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers. President Grover Cleveland made it a national holiday in 1894, during a crisis over federal efforts to end a strike by railroad workers.
  2. The first city, in 1882, to celebrate Labor Day with a parade was New York City. In the late 1800s, many Americans toiled 12 hours a day, seven days a week, often in physically demanding, low-paying jobs. Children worked too, on farms and in factories and mines. Conditions were often harsh and unsafe. It was in this context that American workers held the first Labor Day parade, marching from New York’s City Hall to a giant picnic at an uptown park on Sept. 5, 1882.
  3. New York was the first state to introduce a bill, but Oregon was the first to pass a law recognizing Labor Day, on February 21, 1887. In 1887, four more states – Colorado, Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York – passed laws creating a Labor Day holiday.
