Course Planning and Selection Time!
We are currently entering the KMHS course planning and selection process period for the 2021-22 school year. Our KM Charter schools will receive a separate communication regarding their selection process. Information will be presented to KMHS students in upcoming home advisories. The Academic and Career Planning Guide, which illustrates the courses for the 2021-22 school year, is now available on the Counseling website. The course registration timeline is as follows:

Virtual Course Information Night February 8 from 5:30 - 7:30 pm
  • 5:30 - 6:00 pm - General course selection information
  • 6-7:30 pm - Course Information exploration (Live virtual department presentations)
  • 6-7:30 pm - Course selection registration assistance
  • Course requests may be entered through the Infinite Campus Course Plan between Monday, February 8 at 12:00 pm through Sunday, February 21 at 3:00 pm.

A more detailed schedule with links provided will be shared closer to registration night.
Infinite Campus "Leave Early" Process Enhancement
Parent portal initiated "leave early" absence requests for the High School and Charter Schools are now set up to automatically email students when "leave early" requests are approved.

The simple process including the enhancement works as follows:

  • Step 1 - Parent logs in to IC, select "more," select "absence," then complete and submit the "leave early" request
  • Step 2 - The attendance office reviews and approves the request
  • Step 3 - The IC system checks every 15 minutes for any new approved absences; if the approved absence is of type 'LeaveEarly', the system emails the student with date, time leaving, who requested the absence, the reason for the absence, and instructions to show the email to teacher as a "pass" to leave.

The email message the student receives is very simple:

Hello (student name),
You have an approved absence for (date), leaving school at (time).
Requested by: (requestor name) | Reason: (reason selected)
Please show this email to your teacher as your pass and proceed to the office to check out.

IMPORTANT: Parents must enter the requests at least one hour in advance of the requested leave time to ensure this process works given there is attendance office approval that requires human intervention, and the IC system deploys messages in a 15 minute cycle time.

  • 2020-21 Course Registration
  • Virtual College Visit Opportunities
Virtual Visit by KM Alum Jimmy Dowd Energizes and Enlightens Students!
Early January, 2019 KMHS graduate Jimmy Dowd spoke to our Human Body System class about how Project Lead the Way (PLTW) classes prepared him for success at UW - Madison.

He answered questions like:
  • What types of hands-on lab experiences do you do at UW Madison?
  • Why did you choose the science/medical path?
  • What are good study tips for remembering vocab/retaining the information you have learned?
  • How do college lab reports differ from those in high school?
Jimmy shared how PLTW gave him a leg up over his college peers, for he had already practiced skills like gel electrophoresis, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), protein purification, and bacterial transformation (transgenic glowing bacteria) at KMHS. He was able to carry these lab skills and techniques into his science courses as well as working in a research lab on campus which helped him be successful.

This is the PLTW.org Biomedical strand link. All courses are offered at KMHS. This video describes how PLTW courses are structured.
Lab skills like PCR (above) and making transgenic bacteria (below) were performed in the course Medical Interventions.
Gel Electrophoresis (above) performed in Principles of Biomedical Sciences (PBS) and Human Body Systems (HBS).
Jimmy also highlighted the benefits of earning college credit in high school when he shared how his college credits from Kettle Moraine’s PLTW and other classes transferred to UW - Madison!
KMHS Ice Fishing Team Takes Third in Qualifier!
The KMHS Ice Fishing Club - teamed with Osceola - took third place in this past weekend's East-West Trifecta WIFA State Qualifier #2. Kudos to angler Katelyn K. who caught an 11" perch and a 30.5" northern pike! #KMProud
Please encourage your students to leave early on wintry days so they arrive on time, and safely, all the time!

Students that arrive late without parents indicating late arrival through the infinite campus portal will be marked tardy unexcused.

To create a full day absence, arrive late, or leave early request simply logon to Infinite Campus, select "More" and complete the "Absence Request" form. Once a leave early request is processed, students will be notified of their approved leave and asked to show their teacher the email when they leave and go to the front office attendance window to scan out. Please allow 1 hour for any full day or leave early requests.
FREE LUNCH PROGRAM

UPDATED 2020-2021 SCHOOL CALENDAR
Face coverings, in combination with other mitigation measures, have served the Kettle Moraine School District well in the first month of school and are proven to greatly reduce the spread and effects of COVID-19.

The district is in regular communication with Waukesha County Public Health, who strongly recommends face coverings in schools. This recommendation aligns with CDC and State Health Dept guidelines. Our district face-covering requirement is in place for the entire 2020-21 school year, regardless of the governor’s current or future orders.
