Hello KMMS families,

We hope everyone had the chance to view the video their student emailed them recently. I was able to watch some of our students’ videos and appreciated the effort and authenticity from them. We should celebrate our kids for taking ownership of their learning and striving for self-improvement. Our students have goals and are going places in life!

In addition to the video from your student, you should have also received an email from house teachers inviting you to sign up for Parent-Teacher Conferences. This is a great opportunity for your child to give you a tour of the school so you can see where they learn and socialize. We hope to see you soon!

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Thursday, February 16, from 3:30PM-6:30PM

Monday, February 20, from  7:00AM-10:00AM

Have a great weekend,

Matt Kitzerow

We LOVE Our KMMS School Counselors!

National School Counseling Week 2023, “School Counselors: Helping Students Dream Big,” celebrated Feb. 6-10, focuses public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems.

Steve Korb and Christina Cowan serve students tirelessly as our middle school counselors. In addition to meeting with students one on one and in small groups, Steve and Christina help students with scheduling, coordinate our Oasis tutors and Student Ambassadors, work in classrooms helping students navigate the nuances of middle school and meet with families to create smooth transitions.

Our School Counselors on "Helping Students Dream Big"

Mr. Korb, "The skills that middle school students are learning right now--how to manage their time, how to persevere when things are difficult, how to treat others, and how to self-advocate when help is needed--are skills that will be used for the rest of their lives. Being an excellent all-around student in middle school will give you the best chance of reaching your dreams!"

Mrs. Cowan, "I always tell my students that what they focus on will grow, and if they focus on the positive, and see themselves being what they want to be, they will. They all have a purpose, and are encouraged to find something they love to do AND are good at doing, and they will be very fulfilled in their career someday."

Pops Concerts

Our first Pops Concert was Tuesday night. Our next Pops Concert is on Monday, February 13th. We hope you are able to enjoy one of these exhibitions of our band students' hard work and practice.

Building and Living Our Vision and Mission

The PTO would like to thank the KMMS community for engaging with our PTO Board in developing new Vision and Mission statements for the organization going forward.

THIS IS YOUR PTO and we were energized and inspired by the input we received from staff, parents and students over the past several months as we developed new vision and mission statements for the organization. We felt it was critical to be very clear about why this organization exists and focus our efforts for greater community impact.

Your participation in surveys, listening sessions and hallway conversations have led to a new Vision and Mission statement that will anchor our efforts going forward. You can review the process and culmination of this work via this link. Feel free to share this information throughout our community.

As we look at what we can accomplish with the remainder of this school year, we will be focusing on connections and social opportunities for our students, families, staff and the wider KMMS community.  Our first effort in this vein was sponsoring the recent GLOW dance for middle school students, in collaboration with the Student Senate. We want to give a special shout out to Ms. Passaglia and Mr. Martin who lead the Student Senate planning, as well as, Kelly Fouts who led the PTO support effort.

We are thrilled and grateful to report that the “Glow Dance” extras that were requested from the community in the form of financial gifts, baked goods, glow accessories, additional chaperones, etc. were filled and resulted in a very well attended and well executed event. Not only did our students have a blast and make memories as one community, we received a record profit of $1,200 via concession sales! We will be sharing information in the coming months of how these funds will be reinvested in our students.

THANK YOU KMMS COMMUNITY!!!

It's time again to show the teachers and staff how much they are appreciated! We will be providing a meal for all staff on Thursday February 16, 2023 which is the afternoon of teacher conferences. If you would like to contribute please sign up here.

We will be offering a soup and salad bar. If bringing a soup or pasta salad please make enough to feed 10-15 people. We will also be restocking much needed break room supplies.

Next Week!
