Hello KMMS families,

Today is the last day of our first semester of the 2022-23 school year. We have messaged many times about student treatment of one another, and today I want to touch on the school bus rides home. The school ride home is an extension of the school day, and all students are expected to adhere to our student code of conduct. Bus rides to school and to school events are included. There is only one adult on the bus, the driver, and their main responsibility is to make sure all students return home physically safe. This places a large responsibility on our students to conduct themselves appropriately without close adult monitoring and supervision.

Please ask your student how their bus ride home is going. We have had a number of incidents to address this school year. Simply put, we expect better behavior from our students on the bus, and we expect them to help interrupt these incidents so they stop. Ms. Lloyd had a poignant message this morning during announcements about treatment of one another and the importance of students stepping in. Research shows that when peers intervene during an incident, the incident is put to a stop nearly 60% of the time (US Department of Health and Human Services - Bystanders are Essential to Bullying Prevention and intervention.

We won’t pretend that it is easy for students to step in and help, but it is necessary for the health of our school community and each KM student.

Thank you for your ongoing support. It truly makes a difference.

Cool STEM Designs!

Makenna and Madisyn, 7th grade STEM students, designed and built lap desks to be able to use at home. The desks not only have a storage compartment underneath, but also feature sports team logos etched on the top.

Waiting After School

Students who are waiting to be picked up after school should all wait in the open area by the front doors. We’ve had an increased number of students wandering around the school after school hours. For safety purposes, all students should be by the front doors. We ask that families arrange rides to pick up their students as soon as possible after the end of the day. Thank you for your assistance.

Learning Lab - Mon-Wed @ KMMS

Learning Lab meets in the library right after school until 4:00 on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. The purpose of Learning Lab is to give students a chance to get their homework done in a quiet, safe, supervised place after school. You do not need to sign up ahead of time - just show up! If you are still in the building after school, it is expected that you are in an activity like Learning Lab, and that you are participating and getting work done!
