Gaming: March Madness Brackets

The 7th grade computer science class has been designing and coding mazes for the past month. In the spirit of March Madness, they have competed one-on-one in a bracket to determine the best games. We have 2 classes of games: hobbyists and gamers. The hobbyists are those who create games in class and the gamers are those who spend considerable time coding outside of class. Students incorporated design strategies, variables, broadcast messaging and conditional loops into their games.

With over 100 students creating games, it's an incredible accomplishment getting to the finals. Thanks goes out to the KMHS computer science students for helping judge the semi-final and final rounds. Congratulations to our winners, Sofia (hobbyist) and Charlie (gamers)!

Have a Safe and Enjoyable Spring Break!

KMMS Family Advisory

As you may have seen on last week's LaserFocused, our middle school has formed a Family Advisory Council this year focused on the lives and learning of our middle schoolers.  The Council needs your input!

  • Please take a few minutes to answer our short survey linked here. It will help inform our work for the remainder of this school year and into 22-23. The survey will close this weekend.
  • Mark your calendars for Wednesday, April 13th at 6:30 p.m. to attend our KMMS Family Listening Session. We will provide a summary of some of the issues facing our school and seek your feedback on a variety of questions about how we might move forward to serve our young adults.

Lunch Time Expectations

We have met with all learning environments this week to refresh some lunch expectations as our lunch supervisors have noticed that some reminders were needed. Below are the expectations that were highlighted along with general reminders about being respectful, responsible and safe in the cafeteria. We are asking for some help reinforcing this at home as well. We are hoping that the reminders and refresh of expectations helps improve things and we don't have to have consequences moving forward.

General Expectations:
  • Be appropriate with your food. This means you are not playing with your food, with others food, or making inappropriate gestures with food.

  • Clean up your space after eating. This means you are taking your trash, throwing it away properly and cleaning up the table space where you ate.

  • Remaining at the table you chose to eat at, and not wandering around the cafeteria. There are too many students in the cafeteria during each lunch for everyone to wander around. It is expected that you remain at your table during the lunch period-except if you have chosen to go outside after you are done eating.

  • Be respectful to others. This means that you are talking to others (including the supervisors) with respect and in a positive manner.
Student Senate Sponsored Movie Night

This is a family movie night which means an adult over the age of 18 is required to attend with younger family members.

Snow Days will become Virtual Days

Here at KMMS we will not close in the case of extreme weather conditions. We will instead have our classes occur virtually through Google Meets. Families will be notified of these instances via district communication. Our middle school team has assembled this plan for those days.

We look forward to maintaining learning continuity and growth during any distance learning. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Mr. Comiskey.
