Hello KMMS families,

I am not sure if you have noticed, but nothing is official still. Yes, I am taking a second week in a row to talk about Aaron Rodgers. It does seem unlikely that Aaron and the Green Bay Packers could successfully reunite. Have you wondered how that relationship became so strained? I believe the media has not helped the situation, and I feel like it is similar to the strained relationships we find amongst our students. A connection is lost when everyone is talking through text and social media, or in the case of the four-time MVP, the national sports media.

Research shows that teens and tweens are missing an empathy connection to others when they speak through texts and posts. Communicating through a screen has been an outlet for impulsive behavior. There are far less opportunities to resolve conflicts this way. Messages that start with “I think.., I feel…, or I need…” should usually not come through text. The majority of conflicts in life can be resolved in face-to-face conversation. This helps to learn others’ perspectives and gain empathy.

It would not be surprising for cell phone time to increase over spring break. We encourage families to work with their students to find balance. Balance is key in many areas of life. For example, our amazing staff and students need this week of spring break for some balance in our lives!

We are looking forward to finishing the final term of the 2022-23 school year when we return. It’s been a great year so far!

Enjoy the break,

Matt Kitzerow

7th and 8th grade Jazz Ensembles

The KMMS Jazz Ensemble students performed today during the 6th and 7th grade lunch periods. Teachers and students alike enjoyed the upbeat entertainment while dining on the last day before Spring Break.

KMMS Computer Science

Final Four

Mrs. Olson’s 7th grade Computer Science classes designed/created maze games and then competed in a bracket-style competition. Each participant created a unique gamer name for anonymity throughout judging. The Gamers bracket are students with extensive coding experience. Julia B, Jaden F, Mark A and Zach H climbed to the Final Four. The Hobbyist bracket contained 80 students who fiercely competed to the Final Four: Steven K, Andrew W, Eliot M and Nolan J survived the climb to the Final Four. Judging of the final rounds will commence after spring break — may the best games win!

KMMS Forensics Wins 2nd Place @ State

Your KM Forensics team spoke with conviction this past weekend at the State meet at Brookfield Central High School and took home the second-place trophy in the Open Division, which is for teams that are considered extra large. Twenty-five young orators qualified for state and 10 came home with a medal. The big news is that KM has two State champions, Annie S., whose speech "Wanting to Be Heard" took first place in the Farago category, and  Ava S. also took first place with her speech, "There's No Place Like Home" in the Infomercial category. Ben P. took home a third-place trophy with his speech on "Poseidon's Pen", also in the Infomercial category. Congratulate your classmates who stood up and learned to speak in public with conviction, a skill we could all use.

Kettle Moraine Middle School

Class of 2027

T-shirts for 8th Graders

Every year KMMS PTO has provided each 8th grade student with a traditional class t-shirt. We want to keep this tradition going, but we need your help!

We are seeking partnerships with local businesses and/or families to help sponsor part of the cost for these shirts. The sponsor name or business logo will be displayed on the back of the shirt below the student names These T-shirts are worn by the students on the annual 8th grade bowling trip and beyond.

Note that the proceeds raised from these sponsorship donations will help fund 8th grade end of the year activities.

If you know of, or are affiliated with, a business that would be interested in sponsoring shirts for our students, or, if your family would like to make a donation, please email us at carriefosspto@gmail

KMMS PTO thanks you in advance for considering a sponsorship in this annual 8th grade tradition!

Leftovers?

We still have a crockpot from the Teacher Appreciation Dinner last week. The items will be in the office for pick up at your earliest convenience.
