Hello KMMS families,

We hope your student enjoys the three day weekend! It is hard to believe that when they return to school next week we are already into October and the second month of school. As we enter October, I want to take a moment to discuss one of our school goals for the 2022-23 year. Students took a survey at the end of last school year and about 50% of our students agreed or strongly agreed that “People are often disrespectful to others at my school.” Our goal is to improve the level of respect among students and from students to KMMS staff.

While we as adults may infer why students feel that people are often disrespectful, it is important that we dig deeper and learn more from our students. Your student’s mentor will be asking a few questions for us to gather more information. Here are some of the questions your student will be asked by your mentor:

  • What does being disrespectful mean to you? Can you give examples?
  • Do you think there’s a greater level of disrespect between kids from different houses? Why?
  • Do you think your behavior could be interpreted or perceived as disrespectful? Yes, tell me more.
  • What are some ways that you can help others when you see disrespectful behavior happening? Would you feel comfortable stepping in to help another student?

Like I stated last week, all KMMS students have the right to be treated with dignity and respect by staff and fellow students. Thank you for your support of your student(s) as they continue to develop integrity and leadership as engaged citizens.

Enjoy the beautiful fall weekend,

Matt Kitzerow

Healthy & Active Lifestyles

Virtual 5K

Did you know...

  • There are 35 million amputees and disabled people worldwide who need prosthetic devices but do not have access to them?
  • Traditional prosthetic legs cost between $10,000-$25,000 -- an unattainable price for someone making $3 per day

Congratulations to Mrs. Weske's Healthy & Active Lifestyles class. They participated in a Virtual 5K to raise awareness for Hope to Walk. Hope to Walk is a non-profit organization that exists simply to help the impoverished people of the world to walk again. Millions of amputees worldwide depend on wheelchairs and crutches. Some are even forced to crawl simply because they cannot afford prosthetics. There is still time to donate or participate in the virtual 5K. Go to Hope to Walk for more details.

Secure Your Belongings

Every KMMS student has been assigned a padlock and a locker. Parents, please remind your students to use and lock their locker with the padlock in order to secure their personal belongings. The middle school cannot be responsible for items that have disappeared from unlocked lockers.

Picture Retake Day

Students at KMMS will have an opportunity to have their pictures retaken on, Friday, October 7th. If your student(s) missed our September picture day, please remind them that they will need to have their photo taken on October 7th in order to be pictured in the yearbook. If you have not heard from Empire Photography in order to order your student's photo, please visit their website.

Kettle Moraine Middle School

Family Advisory Council

Kettle Moraine Middle School is continuing with a Family Advisory Council. The purpose of this group is to provide input and feedback on a variety of issues around learning and life at KMMS.  We are entering "Year 2" of the Family Advisory Council and have 12 returning members from our first year. Our goal is to add a few more representatives from our current 6th grade families as well as a few 4th and 5th grade families. The group will have people representing multiple grade levels, environments, and perspectives.

If you are interested in joining the KMMS Family Advisory Council, please complete this short form: KMMS FAC Form. Thank you for considering!

Review: AM Drop Off Protocols:

Please only drop students off at the designated spot; in the drop off line at the south side of the building near the sidewalk.

We have seen more and more cars using the middle parking lot in front of the school for drop off. Using this spot as a drop off point is dangerous to our students and to vehicles. There have been near misses of cars colliding with students and other cars in the recent mornings. Please be patient in the drop off line so that all of our students and families will be safe arriving at school in the morning.

Thank you for helping to keep everyone safe!

Learning Lab - Mon-Wed @ KMMS

Learning Lab meets in the library right after school until 4:00 on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. The purpose of Learning Lab is to give students a chance to get their homework done in a quiet, safe, supervised place after school. You do not need to sign up ahead of time - just show up! If you are still in the building after school, it is expected that you are in an activity like Learning Lab, and that you are participating and getting work done!
