King of Glory Informational Meeting & Congregational Meeting Information
On August 29, 2021, at 10:30 AM a hybrid congregation meeting will be held for the sole purpose of voting to approve the Congregational Council’s recommendation to move forward with three capital projects at King of Glory, and approval of a loan from the ELCA Mission Investment Fund to cover the costs of the projects. Congregational members eligible to vote may attend “live” in the church sanctuary or “remote” by a Zoom link. Further details and Zoom information will be published prior to the meeting. In an effort to have the congregation meeting proceed smoothly, two information meetings have been scheduled. Representatives of the Property Committee, the Technology Task Force, and the Executive Committee will be available to answer questions regarding the Congregational Council’s recommendations. You are encouraged to attend should you have any questions or concerns.
Information Meetings: Sunday, August 22, between the two worship services in the Bethlehem Room; Wednesday, August 25, 7 PM, Zoom meeting.

To review, the three proposed capital projects are:
1. Roof Shingle Replacement: There is a portion of the roof (shingles) that is at least 40 years old and has been causing leak problems for the past couple of years. We can no longer guarantee further damage to the building without replacing the shingles. Because the church building is a commercial building old shingles must be removed. It is imperative that this work be completed before fall wet weather. The Property Committee secured three bids and evaluations for the project. Estimated cost: $47,000.
2. Cross tower: The outside cross tower is made of solid, pressure-treated wood. With proper sealing and painting every 7-10 years, the structure remains sound. The Property Committee has done the work themselves but this is now too high of a risk for committee members. After reviewing four recommendations the Property Committee has recommended that the cross tower be power washed, paint stripped, sealed and re-painted. Estimated cost: $4,000.
3. Technology Upgrades: About 18 years ago, the current audio-visual system--speakers, microphones, and assisted hearing devices-- was designed and installed in the sanctuary. This system is showing its age with ongoing problems that make it difficult for many to clearly hear and fully experience worship. The pandemic has also shown us the importance of being able to offer virtual video worship services as well as in-person worship. We could minister to more people using a hybrid worship service that is recorded and streamed. Updated technology will enhance our mission and our focus so that we may minister to more people in creative ways, led by God’s Spirit. This technology upgrade project includes replacing the audio system, assisted hearing devices, adding video cameras and streaming equipment, software and updating office computers. Estimated cost: $69,000.
At the recommendation of the Executive Committee, and with Congregational Council approval, a preliminary application has been completed with the ELCA Mission Investment Fund for a 6-year loan of $120,000 to be added to our current mortgage balance, with payments about $5456 per month. This flexibility will allow the Congregational Council to be able to make future plans for a capital funds campaign to draw down the mortgage balance.
Thank you for your support and prayers. This is an exciting time for King of Glory!
