Boise Pride Festival Parade
Sunday, September 12, 2021.
10AM to 11PM

The Social Justice Committee at King of Gory is encouraging members of the congregation to join them at the parade. This is not a first time we will be participating behind the Idaho Interfaith Coalition’s banner. It’s a joyful event in support of the LGBTQ+ community in the Valley and Idaho.

This year the Parade is on a Sunday morning. The good thing is that you could watch the King of Glory service online, and still join the parade.

Please let Gabrielle Applequist or Jana Price know if you are interested. We usually regroup in an area near the Capitol before joining the much larger group behind the Interfaith banner.

Gabrielle: 208-724-4482
Jana : 208-898-4766

For parking purposes, the parade starts at the corner of West Jefferson and North 9th street, near the Capitol, and ends at the Cecil Andrus Park.
First Aid Kits!
We all know King of Glory rocks in many ways. One of the things we are best at is in the area of Thrivent Action Teams. Through the years our Thrivent members have used seed money for youth hosted bingo, Girls for Days, quilting projects etc. The latest project of a KOG member to benefit our church was completed by Noah Dean-Erlander. His seed money was used to purchase two new first aid kits (the others were “sorely” outdated). Keep your eyes open for their new locations. Thank you Noah!
Pastor Connie will be on Vacation - September 1-7, 2021
She will be traveling to Colorado. If you have a crisis and are in need of pastoral care during this time, please contact:

The fall worship service schedule will continue with the 2 worship services at 9 and 10:30 AM. However, there will be only one service on Sunday, September 5 at 9 AM.
Advanced sign-up and masks for all persons over the age of 2 who attend in-person worship will continue. These protocols encourage “all” to attend worship, especially for families with children who are not yet eligible to be vaccinated. The advanced sign-up list is also a relevant tool to be used as a contact list if someone does test positive for COVID.

On-line worship services will continue for those who are not able to worship in person.
The Education/Youth and Family Ministry committees are thoughtfully discussing ways King of Glory can offer safe Christian education activities. Watch for news!
Thank you for staying home if you are not feeling well! Let’s encourage each other to be vaccinated and out of respect for those who cannot be vaccinated be masked and distanced! It is good to “see” each other and enjoy Christian fellowship on Sunday mornings as we continue to resume our faith life in the “new” normal!
No great love than this is required of us.

KOG Council Kudos
Katie Vaage you’re an awesome facilitator! Katie is gathering together our young people (those in 8th-12th grade) who wish to attend the 2022 Youth Gathering in Minneapolis, July 24-28. This is a daunting task, to make sure all of the details will be attended to, all deadlines met, and that all attending will have a life-changing experience. Your support and encouragement for these youth is appreciated.

WELCA QUILT-IN & General Meeting
Many greetings to all women of King of Glory! You are invited to a Quilt-In to be held on Saturday, September 11th from 10:00 – 3:00 at King of Glory. The quilters have been furiously working to create beautiful quilts and have many, many tops that need to be batted, backed, tied and bound so that they can be shipped around the world through Lutheran World Relief.

This very fun event will include a short WELCA General Meeting to be held during a provided lunch time. So, please mark your calendars and plan to attend this time of fabulous fellowship where you don’t need to be proficient in sewing. You may want to come to see how the quilts are put together or take some squares home to sew. Whatever your interest/ability level, “Many hands make light work” and we are anxious to see you there.

If you have any questions please contact Patty Larson or Nicki Tompkins.

Thank you,
Your WELCA Board

On Sunday, August 29, 2021, an important hybrid (virtual via Zoom or live at the church) congregational meeting will be held at 10:30 am. There will be only one in-person worship service Sunday at 9:00 AM. All voting members are encouraged to attend either in-person or virtually. The sole purpose of the meeting is to consider the Congregational Council’s recommendation to move forward with three capital improvement projects at King of Glory and the funding mechanism to cover the costs.

How to participate?
1.    If you attend the worship service in-person, you may remain in the sanctuary. If you worshipped via the weekly virtual service in your home, you are welcome to come to the church for the 10:30 meeting.
2.    If you are unable to be at the church in-person, you are invited to participate using the Zoom link assigned to this meeting. You will need to have the Zoom application downloaded on your tablet, computer, or cell-phone. You may also “call” into the meeting, using the telephone number, password and meeting code outlined by Zoom. If you call in, you will be asked to identify yourself by a Congregational Council member. Congregational Council members will be monitoring the meeting on-line to ensure that persons present in the sanctuary and those attending on-line will be able to fully participate.

To review the proposed projects:

Roof Shingle Replacement: A portion of the roof (shingles) is at least 40 years old and has caused leak problems. We can no longer guarantee there will be no further damage to the building without replacing the shingles. A bid by Modern Roofing for shingle replacement is $47,000.
Outdoor Cross Tower Refresh & Repaint: The outside cross tower is usually painted every 7-10 years. The Property Committee recommends that the cross tower be power washed, paint stripped, sealed and re-painted by a local painting contractor. Estimated bid for this project is $4,000.
Technology Upgrades: The audio system in the sanctuary is showing its age with on-going problems which have made it difficult to clearly hear the service and fully experience worship. The pandemic has shown that in-person and virtual video worship services are a must to allow us to enhance our mission and focus. In addition, the office computer system is outdated and needs replacement. The cost of this technology upgrade project which includes replacing the audio system, hearing devices (for those needing hearing enhancement), adding video cameras and streaming equipment/software is $69,000
The Congregational Council recommends that the cost of these capital projects be financed by securing a loan from the ELCA Mission Investment Fund for $120,000. This amount will be added to the current mortgage. At the request of the Executive Committee, a loan application was prepared by our treasurer, Carolyn Jean Smith, and submitted to the ELCA Mission Investment Fund. We have been informed that the application was approved. With congregation approval of the Congregation Council’s recommendations the projects will begin as soon as possible.
If you need further information or have questions on meeting participation, please contact Mary Rickerd, Congregation President.

No Zoom Coffee Hour this week because of the Congregational Meeting.

On August 29, 2021, at 10:30 AM a hybrid congregation meeting (Both in-person or online) will be held
for the sole purpose of voting to approve the Congregational Council’s
recommendation to move forward with three capital projects at King of Glory, and approval of a loan from the ELCA Mission Investment Fund to cover the costs of the projects. Congregational members eligible to vote may attend “live” in the church sanctuary or “remote” by a Zoom link. Further details and Zoom information will be published prior to the meeting. In an effort to have the congregation meeting proceed smoothly, two information meetings have been scheduled. Representatives of the Property Committee, the Technology Task Force, and the Executive Committee will be available to answer questions regarding the Congregational Council’s recommendations.
You are encouraged to attend should you have any questions or concerns.
