Congregational Meeting Update!

On Sunday, August 29, 2021, a hybrid congregational meeting was held at 10:30 am following the 9 AM worship service. A quorum was established with 72 persons attending in the sanctuary and/or on-line via Zoom. The sole purpose of the meeting was to consider the Congregation Council’s recommendation to move forward with three capital improvement projects at King of Glory and the funding mechanism to pay for the projects.
By a unanimous vote, the congregation present voted to proceed with a roof shingle replacement, outdoor cross tower refresh and repaint, and technology upgrades to the audio system in the sanctuary and replacement of computer equipment in the office. The projects, estimated to cost $120,000 will be funded with a loan from the Mission Investment Fund. The $120,000 loan will be added to the existing mortgage to total $350,000 and will be repaid with monthly payments of $5,456 for a six year period at an interest rate of 3.875%. (Our current monthly mortgage payment is $5,545.)
Thank you for your support! These are exciting days for King of Glory. Now we will be able to repair the roof before inclement fall weather begins, and paint the cross tower, our “beacon” on Maple Grove. As we upgrade our sanctuary with a new audio system, and the capability of video support to enhance our worship services we will be able to experience worship that will bring honor and glory to our God in ways yet to be imagined! Orders for the equipment will be placed promptly.
King of Glory, it was exciting to be able to present this congregation meeting in this hybrid fashion; truthfully it was “scary”! Thanks to so many persons who were supportive with their technological skills both in the sanctuary and in the Zoom meeting room, we crossed the Red Sea on dry land, following the Biblical example of Moses and the people of Israel. In these days of pandemic concerns and the need to be safe, we were able to have this meeting to continue our work. And as we prayed Sunday, we now go out in faith with good courage, knowing that the love of God is supporting us. Amen!
A call to silence | Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton

During this week of devastating news, Bishop Eaton encourages us to take a brief pause in silence, that we may be able to hear the voices of those affected by tragedy, listen for God, and respond to suffering in our world.
Sundays for Undies!
Days for Girls is a non-profit organization that
helps girls stay in school and retain dignity,
giving back important days of their lives. Most girls in developing countries miss school during their periods; many eventually drop out. We can do something about that by empowering girls, women, and communities through providing access to sustainable feminine hygiene, as well as menstrual health management training.

You can help us keep girls in school by bringing a package of GIRLS underwear to Church.

Fruit of the Loom - 8, 10, 12 and 14
Hanes - 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 5S
Wonder Nation (WalMart) - 12, 14 and 16
Preferably not white but there are usually 1-2 of those in a pack and we will dye them. Bright colors. No explicit words please.

Boise Pride Festival Parade
Sunday, September 12, 2021.
10AM to 11PM

The Social Justice Committee at King of Gory is encouraging members of the congregation to join them at the parade. This is not a first time we will be participating behind the Idaho Interfaith Coalition’s banner. It’s a joyful event in support of the LGBTQ+ community in the Valley and Idaho.

This year the Parade is on a Sunday morning. The good thing is that you could watch the King of Glory service online, and still join the parade.

Please let Gabrielle Applequist or Jana Price know if you are interested. We usually regroup in an area near the Capitol before joining the much larger group behind the Interfaith banner.

Gabrielle: 208-724-4482
Jana : 208-898-4766

For parking purposes, the parade starts at the corner of West Jefferson and North 9th street, near the Capitol, and ends at the Cecil Andrus Park.
Pastor Connie will be on Vacation

First Aid Kits!

We all know King of Glory rocks in many ways. One of the things we are best at is in the area of Thrivent Action Teams. Through the years our Thrivent members have used seed money for youth hosted bingo, Girls for Days, quilting projects etc.
The latest project of a KOG member to benefit our church was completed by Noah Dean-Erlander. His seed money was used to purchase two new first aid kits (the others were “sorely” outdated).
Keep your eyes open for their new locations.
Thank you Noah!
Zoom Coffee Hour Update
Due to low attendance, we have decided to suspend our Zoom Coffee Hour on Sundays. If there is a need for one again at a later point we will notify you with new information.
WELCA QUILT-IN & General Meeting
Many greetings to all women of King of Glory! You are invited to a Quilt-In to be held on Saturday, September 11th from 10:00 – 3:00 at King of Glory. The quilters have been furiously working to create beautiful quilts and have many, many tops that need to be batted, backed, tied and bound so that they can be shipped around the world through Lutheran World Relief.

This very fun event, so please mark your calendars and plan to attend this time of fabulous fellowship where you don’t need to be proficient in sewing. You may want to come to see how the quilts are put together or take some squares home to sew. Whatever your interest/ability level, “Many hands make light work” and we are anxious to see you there. There will be no lunch supplied by the church. Instead we ask that you bring a sack lunch from home to enjoy during our General Meeting.

If you have any questions please contact Patty Larson or Nicki Tompkins.

Thank you,
Your WELCA Board
