New video: Aerospace manufacturing solvent reduction tips

Aerospace manufacturing solvent reduction tips video

Thanks to Spirit AeroSystems Environmental Programs for assisting with this new video that features industrial solvent management tips. It identifies best practices to help reduce solvent use and improve the environmental, health and safety concerns associated with solvent use. It also includes information about solvent-reduction practices that promote sustainability and cost savings. With a goal to reduce solvent use by 10% per freight on board at Spirit, the video and comprehensive case study were recently published as a result of a three-year solvent-reduction project at the Wichita plant funded in partnership with EPA Region 7.

EPA updates definition of environmental justice

Recently, EPA revised the definition of Environmental Justice (EJ). EJ communities are places that experience significant and disproportionate burdens in areas such as climate, energy, water, pollution, health, housing, transportation, or employment. Additionally, these communities must have a higher proportion of low-income residents.

The figure below illustrates the percentage of disadvantaged (DA) census tracts in each state within Region 7 (KS, MO, NE, and IA) using the Climate and Economic Justice Screening Tool (CEJST). In Kansas, almost 25% of DA tracts are considered disadvantaged, and nearly half of the state's population resides in these tracts. The Pollution Prevention Institute has been intensifying efforts to work with these DA tracts. To discover more about our initiatives and how you can get involved, visit PPI’s EJ webpage.
