2025 Intern Symposium

The PPI Intern Symposium was Sept. 5, and the 2025 interns shared their summer internship experiences and source-reduction recommendations. They highlighted many ways their host companies can conserve natural resources, reduce waste, and boost operational efficiency and profits.

Small Business Energy Workshop

The Kansas Energy Program is hosting a free Small Business Energy Workshop in Hutchinson on Sept. 18 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The workshop will feature opportunities and benefits available through energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, including lighting, refrigeration, HVAC and Solar PV Systems. Beginning Oct. 1, rural small businesses and ag producers will be able to apply for USDA’s Rural Energy for American Program grant, for which award winners receive up to 25% reimbursement on eligible project costs.

Though the workshop is being held in Reno County, anyone in the region is encouraged to attend in person or virtually.

Online hazardous waste training

PPI, in partnership with KDHE, offers an online hazardous waste course designed to assist businesses in meeting employee training responsibilities as required by Kansas Administrative Regulations. These regulations require hazardous waste handlers to complete training annually, and require new employees to be trained within six months of taking a position where they handle hazardous waste. This training needs to be documented and maintained for at least three years.

PPI's online course includes a certificate of completion for only $50 per user. Enroll here.

PFAS Roundtable

The Pollution Prevention Resource Center is hosting a free, virtual roundtable on Nov. 5 from 7-10 a.m. CST. Representatives from EPA Regions 8, 9, and 10 will discuss their PFAS initiative, share the progress made by PFAS workgroups as well as the states' current priorities. Although this event features western states, it is open to anyone who works with or wants to learn more about PFAS.

Registration is free, but is required to gain access to the virtual event.
