2019 Annual Conference
Keynotes Announced

Finding and securing speakers for the Annual Conference is one of the Conference Committee's most important duties. Industry experts that will educate, inspire, and provide new and fresh tools that our members can adopt in their work is the goal; and we believe we've hit that mark exceptionally in 2019.

This year's Pre-Conference and Opening keynote speaker on Wednesday is  Risha Grant. Risha Grant is diversity personified. From her race, gender and lifestyle choices, to being a young, small business owner and tackling economic issues, every area of her life intersects diversity.
Her interest in societal isms like racism, sexism, ageism, classism and plain old stupidism began when she was very young, instead of playing outside, she was inside "playing" school - or more accurately - learning to count, read and write, just in case her darker skin tone cheated her out of an equal education. Risha would later learn how experiences like these would feed into her biases and with that realization, Risha planned to change the world, starting with the reddest state in the nation.
Today, Risha is the Founder & CEO of Risha Grant LLC, an award-winning diversity consulting and communications firm. Their mission is to utilize diversity communication strategies, tactics and training as a catalyst to create an inclusive culture in every company and community. Additionally, Risha created DiversityConneX.com, a highly successful online recruitment tool utilized by both small organizations and Fortune 500 companies to connect diverse professionals to their career opportunities, internships, and non-profit and corporate board positions.
As an international speaker, Risha uses passion, knowledge and humor to empower attendees to increase their bottom line by giving them tools to get rid of their B.S. The engaging approach of her consulting and training has helped governors, NBA teams, mayors, Fortune 500 companies, non-profit organizations and companies to reduce bias and further the understanding of Diversity & Inclusion.

2019 Student Summit & HR Games
On April 12th and April 13th, KS SHRM will host its second annual Student Summit and HR Games at Fort Hays State University. This program brings human resource college students together from across the state to compete in a jeopardy style competition of human resource knowledge for growth and professional development. The conference will also provide students opportunities for networking and mentoring with human resource and academic professionals one-on-one.
Last year we had approximately 35 students and 7 teams that competed in the HR Games, which tested their understanding of the basic body of HR knowledge and helped prepare them to pursue professional certification. KU placed 2nd behind Wichita State, in the single elimination style tournament. We also had great feedback on the educational sessions and connection opportunities with professional members.
With such a great success in our first year, we are looking forward to seeing it continue to grow! Please keep an eye on your inboxes for more details and opportunities to participate as we progress in our planning efforts.

Salina Human Resource
Management Association

Salina Human Resource Management Association hosted their Annual Membership Appreciation Dinner in December where new officers were also inducted.  Thanks to Perspective Consulting, Inc for providing our HR professionals and students with knowledge of how different personalities can impact how we do the holidays.  The presentation also provided great insight on how different personalities work with others.  We are looking forward to many changes in the upcoming year specifically our logo and chapter website.  We hope everyone had a good holiday and look forward to 2019.
