News & Updates from the Honors College
Honors Student Interns with Georgia Emergency and Homeland Security Agency

Alex Goldstein  is a senior Honors College student who is participating in the Accelerated Bachelor's-Master's Program in Criminal Justice. She is pursuing a degree in Psychology with a minor in Criminology. Alex chose to complete multiple Honors Learning Experiences, which allowed her to participate in internships for college credit.
Alex's completed internships include working with the Georgia Innocence Project, Holloway Law Group, and Georgia Emergency and Homeland Security Agency. She had the chance to give back, network, and expose herself to possible future careers through these experiences. She is currently working on a research team with Dr. Marsil, as well as serving as a Teaching Assistant this semester.
Also, Alex plans to earn a Master of Science in Criminal Justice at Kennesaw State University. Afterwards, she either hopes to continue in a PhD program or attend law school. In her experience with the Honors College, Alex states; "The Honors College has pushed me to be a better student. I have been met with support and encouragement throughout my entire time at KSU."
Honors Student Selected for Caravan for Democracy Student Leadership Program

Emily Gunby is an Honors student pursing Music Education. She was selected out of 175 applicants to travel to Israel this December. The Jewish National Fund's Caravan for Democracy Student Leadership Program sends college student leaders on a 10-day, fully subsidized trip to Israel. This trip broadens college students' horizons through meetings with political, cultural, and community leaders who hope to expose students to diverse backgrounds and faiths. Through this program, Emily will be required to participate in pre-trip webinars as well as follow up campus activities in the spring.

Emily was chosen, in part, for the leadership she displays on campus, such as her participation in the President's Emerging Global Scholars (PEGS) program and her role as an Honors College Ambassador. The goal of this program is to provide an experience that will change the lives of students so they can amplify their leadership contributions on campus as well as in their respective communities.
Honors Student Completes Internship with Google

Jomeiny De Leon is a junior Honors student at Kennesaw State University (KSU) majoring in Information Technology. She recently completed an internship with Google in their Information Technology Department. In this internship, Jomeiny facilitated global Googler productivity through direct and remote support for Linux, OS X, Windows, Chrome OS, and Android, in addition to network-based applications.

During her time at KSU, Jomeiny has participated in the Upsilon Pi Epsilon International Honor Society, Golden Key International Honor Society, Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society, the Hispanic and Latino RRPG, Odyssey Mentor Program, Women in Technology, and Association of Information Technology Professionals. She has also received several scholarships including the Goizueta Foundation Scholarship, Goizueta RRPG Top Off Scholarship, and Atlanta Chapter of Women in Electronics Scholarship.

She plans to graduate with her undergraduate degree in December of 2019 and aspires to work for a company with a mission statement in which she believes. Ultimately, Google would be her first choice. Jomeiny aims to eventually complete a Master of Science and hopes to positively impact the Hispanic community and the female minority in the STEM field. To current Honors students, she advises, "being disciplined and persistent will take you far in life. You should surround yourself with good people, make good connections, and make the most of the experiences you gain."
Three Honors Students Selected as 2018 Coca-Cola Scholars
The Coca-Cola First Generation and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Scholars program selects 35 first generation college students to receive scholarships based on financial need, grade point average, academic major, community service, and responses to a scholarship essay.

This year, three Honors students were chosen to receive this award: Mikayla Geer (Business Management major); Cristobal Gonzalez (Construction Engineering major); and Luz "Lupita" Guadalupe Medina (Biology major).  Each of these students will receive $5,000 per year during the four year program. This scholarship can be paired with other scholarships such as Hope and Zell Miller.

In addition to scholarship funds, these impressive recipients will receive added skills through the Coca-Cola Scholars Program to assist them in achieving their goals. The program provides students with graduation coaches, peer and career mentors, and a series of workshops implemented throughout the four-year program.

The Honors College will host Professional Development Night for Honors students on November 12th from 4pm-6pm in the Carmichael Student Center University Rooms. Students will have an opportunity to hear from  special speakers and participate in mock interviews and resume critiques. There is no cost to attend this event.
