The Kratom Trade Association (KTA) was busy all throughout September, advocating alongside the Kratom community to protect Kratom against restrictions in Congress and at the local level. Our FDA legal compliance teams have also been hard at work creating industry resources and trainings to make sure our members are up-to-date with the latest in GMP compliance.

Sweeping Opioid Legislation Passed Without Restrictions on Kratom

Thanks to the tireless work of grassroots advocates, lobbyists, and citizens from around the country, a last minute attempt to include the Stop the Importation and Trafficking of Synthetic Analogues (SITSA) Act was not included in Congress’ final opioid bill H.R. 6, protecting Kratom from federal legislation — for now. However, Kratom is still under the constant threat of regulatory restrictions by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) as well as state legislatures and local municipalities.
Protecting Choice Around the Country

Kratom is targeted at the state and local level nationwide, in places like Georgia , and the Kratom community is there to engage and convince decision makers to reject attempts to restrict Kratom access. In Naperville, Illinois, grassroots advocates like Nina Ajdin met with the mayor and city council about a proposed potential ban of Kratom, making sure elected officials got all of the facts using KTA’s Fact vs. Fiction backgrounder . The Naperville Sun also ran her letter to the editor , featuring her powerful personal story about how Kratom changed her life.
Right now, the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy is considering  making Kratom a Schedule 1 drug , effectively banning it in the state. There is a public comment period until October 18, and we encourage everyone, especially Ohio residents to send comments ( only emails, no phone calls ) to  contact@pharmacy.ohio.gov . Please review our new Advocacy 101 Guide for tips on how to make the most of contacting elected officials.
