The Next Evolution of the Case Method

A recent Wall Street Journal article highlights how Kellogg faculty are reimagining the case method with NoYes AI, an interactive platform that transforms how students engage with business cases.

Rather than receiving all the information upfront, students interview realistic stakeholders, ask follow-up questions, uncover critical information, and build their recommendations through discovery. The result is a learning experience that more closely mirrors how consultants and business leaders investigate complex challenges in practice.

Kellogg Teaching Resources now offers two AI-powered classroom experiences built on the NoYesAI platform: Transportation Crisis at Boston Metro School District, where students investigate a complex operational challenge by interviewing five AI stakeholders, and MacLorie 3D, an AI-mediated negotiation simulation in which students prepare for and conduct a high-stakes negotiation by engaging with AI counterparts.

These two AI-powered experiences are the first in a growing portfolio of interactive teaching materials designed to bring even greater realism and engagement to the classroom. Stay tuned for additional releases!

Two New Cases for Your Classroom

This month's featured releases examine some of today's most pressing business challenges, from brand strategy to the future of retail.

Airbnb and the Brand-versus-Performance Marketing Trade-Off

One of marketing's biggest strategic debates comes to life in this timely case on Airbnb's post-pandemic growth strategy. Students allocate a limited marketing budget while defending their recommendations with marketing analytics, consumer research, and ROI analysis.

The case encourages thoughtful discussion around brand equity, customer acquisition, performance metrics, and channel strategy.

Walmart's Sparky: Agentic AI and the Future of Shopping

As agentic AI reshapes retail, this case invites students to evaluate the strategic opportunities and tradeoffs of AI-powered customer experiences.

Centered on Walmart's AI shopping assistant, Sparky, students weigh competing priorities around customer trust, personalization, monetization, privacy, and platform strategy while developing recommendations for the future of AI-enabled commerce.

New Exercise

A strong fit for courses in negotiation, healthcare management, leadership, and organizational behavior

Anywhere UMC

Bring a realistic healthcare budget negotiation into the classroom with this role-play exercise that challenges students to balance fiscal responsibility with long-term organizational priorities.

Participants negotiate a high-stakes budget request between a medical school dean and a newly appointed department chair at Anywhere University Medical Center (UMC), weighing competing demands around cost reductions, clinic expansion, staffing, and patient care. Grounded in detailed financial data and confidential role information, the exercise develops negotiation, stakeholder management, and collaborative problem-solving skills while encouraging participants to uncover opportunities for mutual gain.
