It's 2021! Same crazy, different year.

So, um, ok. We were all rolling into 2021 like, "Bye 2020," and KVMR had some fun station updates that seemed kind of important 2 days ago, but how can we compete with a shirtless face-painter in a horned headdress storming the capitol with a cadre of anti-democracy insurgents? By keepin' on keepin' on, that's how.
This month sees some changes and music opportunities at your community radio station-- Paul Emery is retiring as KVMR's News Director and Claudio Mendonça has stepped into the roll. RIP Amigo Bob Cantisano of KVMR's Organic Matters. Deejays pick their favorite albums of 2020, an upcoming Joan Baez birthday special, and virtual John McCutcheon concert this weekend. KVMR is going to stick with kindness, community, fairness, and facts. We are all in this together. If you'd like to find out what's going on in KVMR-Land, check out the stories below. We're here because you turn us on. Thank you for turning us on!

KVMR is pleased to announce we have hired a new News Director-- Claudio Mendonça. Emeritus News Director Paul Emery had been trying to retire for a few years, but graciously stayed until KVMR found a replacement-- many thanks to Paul for building KVMR's news department and developing lasting relationships and fans for more than 15 years. We love you Paul, and hope you will contribute in some capacity for years to come!
Claudio has been a volunteer producer/host for news and public affairs for over three years. After being deputized last year for production and emergency broadcasting he was hired as a part-time producer for KVMR. After many rounds of interviews over the past six months, Claudio emerged as the best fit because of his familiarity with our broadcasters and programming, his track record as a team player, his outstanding production skills, and his deep appreciation for the community we serve.
As News Director, Claudio will be working to schedule, review, edit and train KVMR broadcasters with their production of talkies, call-ins, commentaries, interviews and radio documentaries. Thanks once more to Paul Emery and his news team for working with Claudio on the transition. Felton Pruitt is staying on as a producer and contributor for the newscast.
Welcome Claudio! While we are excited for the fresh perspective a new staffperson brings, we remain grateful for the stellar job Paul did for many years. The KVMR community wishes you both the best with your new chapters!

Dude, where's my tax letter?
|
Never fear, we are working hard to get tax letters to donors. KVMR sends a paper letter for cumulative donations $250 and above, and an email tax letter for ALL donations of any size. Questions? Contact membership director Adriana Kelly, membership@kvmr.org. We plan to have them in the mail by January 20th.

Your donations did double duty!
|
|
The second load of food from our Black Friday fundraiser was dropped off at the Food Bank of Nevada County on Wednesday, and Incredible Pets donates 1 TON of pet food to Animal Save this month, because this season of giving you made spirits bright. For the first 100 donations on Black Friday, SPD Market donated a bag of groceries to the Food Bank, and Incredible Pets donated 5 lbs of pet food for the first 400 donations before Dec 31st! KVMR raised $60,000 towards operating expenses during the year's end, and you fed hungry people and animals. Your generosity is amazing, THANK YOU!

The Food Bank of Nevada County is feeding 10,000 people a month, and need canned fruit and vegetables to distribute. Find out how you can help feed local hungry families HERE.

Mommy, what's a sustainer?
|
|
A sustaining member gives a monthly gift to KVMR. Because of sustainer support, KVMR has been able to cut our on-air fundraising in half and focus on training and service during our year of confinement. While we miss broadcasters roaming the station all hours of the day and night, we are so proud of the MORE THAN 100 broadcasters who have risen to the challenge and made radio in a new way. Like many, KVMR has had a tough year financially, but our members have really stepped up to try and fill the gap and keep community radio thriving. Sustainers are eligible for a thank-you gift commensurate to their annual amount every year, are automatically entered into all drawings, and are invited to our ZOOM Speaker Series. We launched the series in October as a way to be together, and so far we've had Amy Goodman, Michael Moore, and John McCutcheon give exclusive content. You can sign up to become a sustainer on our secure donation page, HERE.

So much love to you, KVMR family. We look forward to spending 2021 with you. On the radio, we can still be together while we're apart, and we have high hopes of being together this year. Be well!
