KWAOR President's Message
Hello REALTOR®and Affiliate members!

I’m hoping everyone is doing well and enjoying this beautiful spring weather!

For the second year in a row, the NAR Legislative meetings are being held virtually. KWAOR leaders are attending meetings regarding subjects that affect our industry.

At the national level, NAR is engaged in ongoing communicating with DC government agencies. and preserving REALTOR® Independent Contractor status. Other major subjects include the need for affordable housing, fair housing practices, cyber security, and improving website accessibility for people with disabilities.

Regionally, there are definitely common themes. The housing inventory shortage, which has caused a boom in multiple offer, above-list-price "bidding wars", has created a challenging climate not only regionally but nationwide. Agents are experiencing issues with escalation clauses, coming soon listings, waiving of inspection and appraisal contingencies, and overall professionalism. Not surprisingly, ethics complaints and E&O claims are up.  Buyer’s “love letters” are discouraged and may actually violate fair housing rules.

Here at the Kent Washington Association of REALTORS®, we have heavy hearts with the loss of our past president, Chris Fascione.  In addition to serving as a two-term KWAOR president, Chris was the founder and president of the Kent Washington Association of REALTORS® charitable arm: KWAOR Foundation, Inc. The Foundation Board of Directors has issued a call to serve for anyone who may wish to apply to fill the vacancy with the KWAOR Foundation Board. Please to be in touch with CEO Linda Arcouette or myself. The Foundation was created in 2019 to help those in our community; learn more here.

Please be on the lookout for an upcoming email seeking nominees for the 2021 KWAOR REALTOR® of the Year. This annual award is given out to a member who goes above and beyond in our community. Your suggestions are very much appreciated.

You’ll soon be hearing more about our annual President’s Fundraiser event planned for August 19th at Yawgoo Bakes and BBQ in Exeter. We're looking forward to finally being able to gather in person! My chosen charity this year is Be The Change/Project Hand Up, and as always a portion of the funds raised will go to support South County Habitat for Humanity as well.

Have you checked out our recently created private Members Group on Facebook? We know there is a lot of frustration out there with this highly competitive, low inventory market. Sometimes we just need to vent, ask for opinions, or share recent experiences. What’s your biggest professional challenge in the current market? Are firm office meetings a thing of the past? Weigh in on how your firm is handling communications. We hope to see you there, and thanks to those who have already joined! Click here to request membership in this Group - open to all KWAOR members.

I wish you all a healthy and prosperous spring!

Your President,
Greg Eccleston
