President's Note

Hi Neighbors,

As the weather becomes warmer and drier, we’re entering fire season once again. Thank you to everyone who is already taking steps to help keep Kent Woodlands safe and beautiful through brush clearing and tree maintenance. Your efforts make a real difference in protecting our community.

We’d also like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the KWPOA tree removal application, which is a process that helps preserve the character and safety of our neighborhood:

Per KWPOA guidelines, trees with a circumference greater than eighteen (18) inches, measured five (5) feet above grade, may not be removed or heavily pruned without approval from the Architectural Committee (AC). Members should submit the appropriate application before beginning this work.

For dead, diseased, or hazardous trees, removal may proceed without prior review provided that a no-fee application is submitted along with one of the following:

1. An arborist’s report

2. A letter from the Kentfield Fire Protection District

3. An inspection by a member of the Architectural Committee or AC staff

As part of our seasonal fire preparedness efforts, our hazard mitigation consultant, Zac (fire@kwpoa.com), has begun conducting neighborhood drive-by inspections. He is also available to meet with residents for complimentary property assessments and can provide guidance on steps you can take to strengthen your home’s fire preparedness ahead of upcoming local and state inspections, which are expected to increase this year.

POWERLINE UNDERGROUNDING UPDATE

The KWPOA board has been in direct discussions with PG&E senior executives regarding the potential for them to underground Kent Woodland's power lines, given PG&E's statements that doing so reduces the risk of fires starting by 98%. PG&E has recently acknowledged that our neighborhood is high risk. We will continue to keep our community updated through what will likely be a multi-year process.

Families with Young Children Gathering

We held another successful Kent Woodlands families with young children get together with a great group — some who grew up in the Woodlands, others who have lived here for many years, and a family who just bought a home in the neighborhood. Thank you to the KWPOA for sponsoring and to those that attended. It was a fun afternoon with face painting, balloon creations, and playground time!

We are looking for other parents, ideally with pre-elementary school children, to help and bring some new energy to the group. Email Michelle Varney at mlgezo@gmail.com if interested.

Another Fun Food Truck Event!

We were happy to feature a new food truck at our May 31st event — Lucia’s, who provided delicious pizza for a hungry crowd! Once again, Kona Ice served authentic Hawaiian shave ice, and there were plenty of beverages for both adults and kids. And everyone was able to enjoy the beautiful newly-landscaped acorn lot up close!

Mark your calendars for our next food truck event on Sunday, September 13th. All Kent Woodlands residents are welcome, and we’d love to see you there. Tell your neighbors and bring the whole family!

Then consider these helpful tips to make sure their alerts get to you at any hour of the day or night (note that instructions may vary, depending on your device):

Create a contact for “Alert Marin”
Add the phone number that Alert Marin will call from (415-473-6376) to that contact
Add the mobile number that Alert Marin will text from (88911) to that contact
For this contact, change your ringtone and text tone sound to a unique tone that will get your attention and be sure to TURN ON THE “EMERGENCY BYPASS” FUNCTION.
