I hope everyone is enjoying summer!
For years, a parcel at the top of King Mountain sat on the market as the site of a future private estate — at one point advertised as a $25 million "Mountain Top Legacy Compound." Many of us already know the perimeter ridge trail off Ridgecrest Road, but the summit itself has stayed fenced and off-limits. That is about to change, given that the Shelby Cullom Davis Charitable Fund and the Marin Open Space Trust are poised to donate the remaining 161 acres — including the summit and its panoramic views — as public open space. If approved by the Board of Supervisors in July, this land will be permanently added to Marin County's protected open space lands and the fence would come down.
On another note, for those of you who'd like an alternative to clearing
vegetation themselves or hiring a landscaper with loud equipment, several Kent Woodlands residents have used goats! Feel free to do your own research, but it's been recommended to us to consider using Mendel Rice of firegoatsllc.com who can be contacted at 415-691-5078. Most recently, the was charging $500 for a week of goats and they can specialize in small areas with only the need to access a hose for filling the goats' water, and an electrical outlet for the electric fence to keep the goats contained (since I would likely lose my next election for HOA President if I created loose goat herds throughout the neighborhood).
