Volume 355 | June 2025

President's Note

Dear Neighbors,

With the weather turning warmer and no rain in the forecast, this is a wonderful time to enjoy Kent Woodlands!

This is also a great time to focus on defensible space and home hardening against wildfire. In fact, according to the survey many of you participated in recently, fire safety and vegetation management was the #1 ranked priority that respondents believed our CC&R's should address. There are many of you that do a great job maintaining your property as necessary to reduce the risk of embers from a nearby fire from igniting your home and the vegetation near it. However, unfortunately, we can't say the same for many of our neighbors. Our board always tries to begin the process of fire mitigation on member's properties as friendly as possible, but at times we've had to take enforcement and even legal action (with successful results) to enforce our CC&Rs as it relates to this topic.

On a related note, the power/utility line Undergrounding Committee, made up of volunteers throughout the neighborhood, is preparing for a community meeting this fall where residents can learn a lot more about the process and costs involved. Stay tuned for more details.

Sincerely,

Jeff Leh, President

Marin County emergency officials will use the AlertMarin Emergency Notification System to provide residents with critical information and potentially life-saving instructions in the event of a wildfire or any other situation that requires evacuation. An AlertMarin notification will provide timely, clear, and accurate instructions in the form of a call, text, or email.

Sign up today at

emergency.marincounty.gov/pages/alertmarin

Then consider these helpful tips to make sure their alerts get to you at any hour of the day or night (note that instructions may vary, depending on your device):

  • Create a contact for “Alert Marin”
  • Add the phone number that Alert Marin will call from (415-473-6376) to that contact
  • Add the mobile number that Alert Marin will text from (88911) to that contact
  • For this contact, change your ringtone and text tone sound to a unique tone that will get your attention and be sure to TURN ON THE “EMERGENCY BYPASS” FUNCTION.

Consider electric yard equipment! Converting from gas to electric yard equipment can be a rewarding experience. Traditional gas mowers alone emit as much pollution in one hour as a gas car driving several hundred miles. Electric equipment produces zero emissions, and has lower long-term operating costs. Immediate benefits: Noise Reduction, Ease of Use & No odor (think leaf blowers).

If anyone has questions about my experience or wants advice on making the switch, please feel free to contact me on our "Ask Pete” Section of our CNKW Website at www.carbonneutralkw.com/blog-2-1.
