President's Note

Hi Neighbors,

It was great to see the huge turnout of Kent Woodlands families and residents of all ages on Halloween! Thank you to the Marin County Sheriff's Office for enforcing our street closure and keeping everyone safe, the Kentfield Fire Department for leading our parade of trick-or-treaters, the dozens of treat table volunteers, and to the Ryan family for hosting everyone outside at their home after the parade for pizza & beverages!

I wanted to take the opportunity in this newsletter to thank Noah Hagey, who recently resigned from the board after four years of service. Noah was what I refer to as a major 'value add' board member who volunteered countless hours on such projects as the placement of dog waste stations at the various trailheads throughout Kent Woodlands while navigating the board through several legal matters, saving the association and our members thousands of dollars. He's the founder of Braun Hagey & Borden LLP, one of the nation’s leading bi-coastal litigation and corporate boutique law firms, so having someone of his caliber on the board benefited all of us greatly. Noah has agreed to join KWPOA's new Legal Committee so we can continue to rely on his expertise and advice as needed. Please join me in thanking Noah for all of his service!

Finally, please save the date for the annual adults-only Kent Woodlands Holiday Party at Guesthouse on Sunday, December 8th from 5:00—8:00 p.m. This fun event always sells out and is a wonderful way to celebrate the season with your neighbors. Keep an eye out for your invitation in the next week or so.

Happy Fall!

Sincerely,

Jeff Leh, President

Thank you for taking the necessary steps to clear your hillside of French broom. As we know, both French and Scotch broom are persistent issues each year, and pulling them out is much more effective than simply cutting them back. This highly invasive plant can produce up to 8,000 seeds annually!

Another invasive species that appears throughout the woodlands and has spread to Mount Tam is Echium candicans, commonly known as Pride of Madeira. If you keep this plant on your property, space it properly, as it can quickly grow into a continuous wall and outcompete native plants. Additionally, this shrub is not considered fire-safe.

I highly recommend visiting the FIRE Safe Marin website. They list drought-tolerant, fire-smart plant choices based on our local soil conditions. Please consider planting California natives, as they support bees and butterflies and have adapted to our environment, including fire. However, I would advise against planting coyote brush.

KENT WOODLANDS CARBON NEUTRAL ANNUAL ENERGY SURVEY:

Please help us establish a community weigh-in for home carbon emissions! The annual survey will    become the foundation for the Kent Woodlands Carbon Neutral project, as we support our members in this unique and challenging endeavor! This survey is completely anonymous and a critical first step in understanding what members are already doing to save energy and lower their emissions. This data will be compiled and results shared in 2025! Take the survey HERE.
