Relationship Goals

0001-4307024922746367493.jpg

In February, KWRCC visited the high school to ask teens about their goals for relationships and what qualities they value most. The activity took place during lunch, where 55 teens participated by writing their thoughts.

Their answers reveal clear trends in what teens prioritize in their relationships. The top four qualities, by a wide margin, were Communication, Honesty, Respect, and Trust.

Runner-up responses included Commitment, Love, Kindness, and Safety/Support.

By prompting this line of thinking, we hope to encourage Kodiak youth to build happy and healthy relationships and to feel confident in voicing their opinions and boundaries.

Even in adult relationships, keeping our relationship goals in mind can help create a healthy environment for growth and connection!

Effective Communication

Effective communication is the cornerstone of any healthy relationship. It’s not just about talking, but truly listening and understanding each other.

By using strategies like these, we can prevent misunderstandings, build trust, and ensure that each person feels heard and valued. This can allow for deeper, non-judgmental sharing and help resolve conflicts without blame or hurt.

When communication is effective, relationships thrive. It’s all about listening, expressing yourself honestly, and approaching each conversation with empathy and respect.

KANA Community Safety Survey

Kodiak Area Native Association (KANA) is conducting a survey to research and better understand crime and victimization in our community, and how to better support victims and survivors of crime through access to safety, justice, and healing.

This anonymous survey has 22 questions and takes a maximum of 15 minutes. Participants must be at least 18 years of age and a resident of Kodiak Island.

Upon completion, you may enter a drawing to win a $100 amazon gift card!

The Kodiak Women's Resource and Crisis Center (KWRCC) is supported by our local Kodiak community and the Alaska Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. By raising awareness of the critical need for KWRCC and the services we provide, we can keep our issues front and center for our legislators as they make and vote on important policies.

* Why are programs like KWRCC needed in our community?

* How has KWRCC impacted your life or our community?

Let your voice be heard! Share what matters to YOU to help shape the priorities of our state and local community. Be an advocate for the needs of Kodiak!
