KYSITE

Kentucky Section

of ITE

Greetings KYSITE members!

As this second month of 2025 draws to an end, we want to extend a hearty thank you to every member, guest, and speaker that made the first meeting of the year a great success. Over 40 transportation professionals and students gathered to meet and hear from new KYSITE President Roger Mulvaney, and the great slate of speakers from around Lexington. Read the full recap of the 2025 Winter Technical Meeting below.

Keep your eyes out for upcoming news on the Spring and Summer KYSITE events. Our 2025 Schedule, showcased at our Technical Meeting, is below!

2025 Winter Technical Meeting

Our first meeting of 2025 was a great success for KYSITE! The Section gathered at the LFUCG Phoenix Building and heard from a great group of students from UK and professionals shaping transportation projects and policy around Lexington.

From the University of Kentucky:

  • Musa Sabit - Estimating the Benefits of Using Shuttles
  • Necco Beltran - Autonomous Ride Sharing in the Rural Southeast US
  • Eugene Antwi - Travel Time Reliability and Level of Service
  • Zhihua Jin - Selective Door Operation in Rail Stations
  • Siavash Teherinavid - How to make Roads Safer for Vulnerable Road Users

From LFUCG and our consultant partners:

  • Brandi Peacher (LFUCG) - Complete Streets Policy in Lexington
  • Adam Hedges (HDR) - Road Safety Assessments with KYTC District 7
  • Chase Wright (Strand) & Roger Mulvaney (LFUCG) - LFUCG Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program

We once again want to thank LFUCG for hosting and allowing the use of the Phoenix Building conference room, and our speakers for standing up and sharing their thoughts and expertise with the Section.

KYSITE Committees

With the 2025 season of events already underway, the KYSITE Board is asking for volunteers to assist in the various Committees that make these events possible and successful. A brief description of our Committees is included below. If any member is interested in lending their talents, expertise, and time to any of the Committees, please reach out to the officers at kysite@itedsc.org.

Golf Outing Committee

The Golf Outing Committee is responsible for organizing the Annual Golf Outing which benefits KYSITE's William "Bill" Seymour Scholarship. Members of this committee identify sponsors, catering, and work with the Board to schedule and organize teams for the Golf Outing.

Community Service Committee

The new Community Service Committee is responsible for directing KYSITE's philanthropic efforts, so we can give back to the communities we serve as transportation practitioners. Committee members identify service opportunities, organize volunteers and schedule events with the Board. The Committee is moving fast - they've already identified an event and are looking forward to bringing it to the Board and the Section!

Sponsorship Committee

The 2025 Board of Officers would like to start up a Sponsorship Committee to be a liaison between KYSITE and corporate entities. Members would facilitate Sponsorship opportunities and work with the other Committees to identify, contact, and manage relationships with corporate sponsors to help fund the Scholarship, events and training opportunities across the Commonwealth.

Student Engagement Committee

Our Student Engagement Committee is a vital part of KYSITE and the community of transportation professionals. They help facilitate conversations with Kentucky students and university faculty to attract and mentor talent. The Committee has successfully restarted the UK Student Chapter of ITE and is looking for alumni to aid in similar ventures at UofL and WKU.

Silent Auction Committee

The Silent Auction is a big part of the Annual Banquet and helps fund the William "Bill" Seymour Scholarship. The Committee coordinates closely with the Board, soliciting donations to and running the Silent Auction at the Annual Banquet.

2026 ITE International Elections

Don't forget to cast your vote in the 2026 ITE International President and Vice President Elections! The deadline of March 5 noon EST is rapidly approaching. Each member of ITE should have received a personalized ballot in their email.
