Newsletter - June 2025

Happy Friday the 13th KYSITE! Hopefully your luck stays and everyone is able to enjoy the outdoors and dodge any dive bombing cicadas. This bourbon brood is certainly a lively one!

May and the first week of June were a whirlwind of activity for KYSITE. Members from both KYSITE and Ohio ITE gathered in Cincinnati to enjoy some great catering from Eli's BBQ, catch up with friends from across the river, and listen to some great expert presentations. And just last week the Annual Golf Outing was hosted at Weissinger Hills, where members from across the State assembled and raised money for the William "Bill" Seymour Scholarship.

ITE International has several great webinars scheduled for later this month. From Roundabout First next Tuesday June 17 or learning how to expand your career and gain PTOE, PTP, and RSP Certifications on the 24th. View the entire calendar of events, webinars, and courses here.

See below for the updated 2025 Schedule. As those long road trips are planned and started be sure take care of yourself and remember that drowsy driving is impaired driving. We want everyone of our friends and fellow KYSITE members to have fun and enjoy the summer but to return home safely.

May 16 -

KYSITE / OHSITE Joint Meeting

It seems like May 16 was just yesterday, but no, it was nearly a month ago when 30 ITE members from two Sections met at the OKI office in downtown Cincinnati. Attendees were treated to presentations on the Brent Spence Bridge Project, Microsimulation Modeling of MOT Operations, Cincinnati's BRT Line, OKI's Recent Projects, and the Kentucky's work on a state-specific Safe System Alignment Framework.

Thank you to Jon Grimm, OHSITE President, and our own Roger Mulvaney for organizing and working to put everything together.

June 5 -

KYSITE Golf Outing

Every year the KYSITE community gathers to have some fun golfing at Weissinger Hills while also raising funds for our scholarship. The scramble this year was held in June to beat some of the summer heat. As always, what's golf without some competition? This year we had three separate awards - Longest Drive, Closest to the Pin, and Overall Team Winner.

Our 2025 KYSITE Golf Outing Winners are:

Longest Drive - Courtney Evans

Closest to the Pin - Ken Pappalardo

Overall Team Winner - WSP Team of Rance Paxton, Austin Obenauf, Katie Hornback, and Chris Barrow

Thank you to everyone that attended! And a huge thank you to our hole sponsors:

ITE really is a Community of Transportation Professionals and it's great to see that community rally together and support the younger generation of engineers and planners. Through this generous support, KYSITE has raised over $1400 this year towards the William "Bill" Seymour Scholarship.

Thank you to Graham Winchester and Jared Jeffers for organizing this successful fundraiser.

KYSITE Committees

With the 2025 season of events already underway, the KYSITE Board is asking for volunteers to assist in the various Committees that make these events possible and successful. A brief description of our Committees is included below. If any member is interested in lending their talents, expertise, and time to any of the Committees, please reach out to the officers at kysite@itedsc.org.

Golf Outing Committee

The Golf Outing Committee is responsible for organizing the Annual Golf Outing which benefits KYSITE's William "Bill" Seymour Scholarship. Members of this committee identify sponsors, catering, and work with the Board to schedule and organize teams for the Golf Outing.

Community Service Committee

The new Community Service Committee is responsible for directing KYSITE's philanthropic efforts, so we can give back to the communities we serve as transportation practitioners. Committee members identify service opportunities, organize volunteers and schedule events with the Board.

Sponsorship Committee

The 2025 Board of Officers would like to start up a Sponsorship Committee to be a liaison between KYSITE and corporate entities. Members would facilitate Sponsorship opportunities and work with the other Committees to identify, contact, and manage relationships with corporate sponsors to help fund the Scholarship, events and training opportunities across the Commonwealth.

Student Engagement Committee

Our Student Engagement Committee is a vital part of KYSITE and the community of transportation professionals. They help facilitate conversations with Kentucky students and university faculty to attract and mentor talent. The Committee has successfully restarted the UK Student Chapter of ITE and is looking for alumni to aid in similar ventures at UofL and WKU.

Silent Auction Committee

The Silent Auction is a big part of the Annual Banquet and helps fund the William "Bill" Seymour Scholarship. The Committee coordinates closely with the Board, soliciting donations to and running the Silent Auction at the Annual Banquet.
