Considering Donating to a Charity?
|
|
When you become interested in an organization you feel very passionate about and share in their mission, you want to donate time and money to them. Before you donate, stop and ask yourself a few questions regarding the organization.
- What is the organization's mission?
- What are their goals?
- What progress is the organization making towards its goals?
- What sources are available to increase your confidence in their work?
It is so important to try to get a better understanding of these questions. If you are ever unsure, reach out to the organization and see if they can answer these questions.
Kailee Mills Foundation is prepared to answer each one of these questions. We want to make sure we are transparent and clear to our donors and supporters. Without your confidence in us as a nonprofit, we would not be able to continue to grow and spread seat belt awareness, help families and save lives.
A quick chat with our Vice President, Briana McCulloch, was all that was needed to solidify Kailee Mills Foundation is the right foundation to support if you want to increase a positive culture of seat belt use.
Our Mission:
- The Kailee Mills Foundation informs the public on the importance of seat belt use while encouraging and inspiring communities to protect themselves and their passengers by always wearing their seat belts.
Our Goals:
- To improve the seat belt statistics at local schools by hosting presentations and performing seat belt checks to encourage people to always wear their seat belts.
- To create awareness and reminders of seat belt use through the high visibility, recognition, and distribution of our seat belt awareness ribbon.
- To provide a college scholarship each year to a student who has lost a parent or sibling in a car crash.
- To assist at least 3 families each year who have been affected by losing a parent, sibling, or child in a seat belt related crash with financial and/or counseling assistance.
Our Progress:
- Since its inception, we have given 2 decals per vehicle we stopped at seat belt checks, and 2 per person in attendance at each assembly. Every awareness event, our decals are available and we consistently sell them online to people all over the United States. We have several ambassadors across the nation who distribute the decals within their community.
- In 2018, we performed 5 assembly presentations and 13 seat belt checks at local high schools, along with 3 seat belt awareness events to raise awareness among teens and families in the community.
- In 2018, we were able to provide financial assistance and/or counseling assistance to 3 families.
- In 2019, we will award our first college scholarship in the amount of $20,000; this will be done once annually.
Our Available Sources:
- Our organization is happy to provide any completed form 990, proof of 501(c)(3) status, or financial statements as requested and approved.
- We can also be found on Guidestar, where we've earned the Bronze Seal of Transparency, and Great Nonprofits, where we've earned 2018 Top-Rated Nonprofit Award.
While we have a strong presence in our local community, we have already began to spread across Texas, the United States, and into parts of Canada. Our story was shared worldwide after only being established for four months! We haven't even been in existence for a year and already have made great strides in expanding outside of Harris County and can only continue to do so with help from our donors, volunteers, and advocates. You do not have to be located in Harris County, let alone in Texas, to further our mission. If anything, you would be furthering it exponentially!

Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. Since its inaugural year in 2012, #GivingTuesday has become a movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy with events throughout the year and a growing catalog of resources.
|
|
#GivingTuesday harnesses the potential of social media and the generosity of people around the world to bring about real change in their communities; it provides a platform for them to encourage the donation of time, resources and talents to address local challenges. It also brings together the collective power of a unique blend of partners— nonprofits, civic organizations, businesses and corporations, as well as families and individuals—to encourage and amplify small acts of kindness.
|
|
As a global movement, #GivingTuesday unites countries around the world by sharing our capacity to care for and empower one another.
In 2017, Giving Tuesday had 21.7 BILLION impressions on Social Media across over 150 countries and raised 300 MILLION dollars (2.5 MILLION dollars in online gifts) for different organizations.
