Last Chance to Take the Fear Free SAT and ACT Practice Tests
If your student hasn't taken the Fear Free SAT or ACT Practice Tests yet, there's one last round scheduled for this year:

  • SAT on February 29
  • ACT on March 7

The Fear Free Tests are a great way for your student to get comfortable with the format and style of the SAT or ACT in a stress free environment. A review session by Princeton Review provides more tips and tricks to prepare for the actual test.

All tests are taken in the LWHS library from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm, and provide a complete testing simulation. Register for the February 29 SAT practice test before February 25!

Calm Café Update
Great News!
The Calm Café will be offered at BOTH Lunch A and B during second semester (same location, second floor, west pod, room 270B). Please talk to your teens about this alternative lunchtime option…”try it you just may like it, A LOT.”
Sad News!
If we do not have approved volunteers to supervise the room, the Calm Café cannot continue to happen.

The new Signup Genius is ready for volunteers! You can volunteer for one or both lunches. Please email calmcafe@lwhsptsa.org if you would like to be added to the Signup Genius for Calm Café volunteering.
Thank you so much for making the Calm Café possible for your teens!

Washington State PTA has a number of programs specifically for students. We hope you will encourage your student to participate in one or more of these fantastic opportunities:

  • WSPTA Essay Contest - explores the important and varied influencers in the lives and education of children. Open to all grades. The submission form is located on the website and due by March 1, 2020. (Formerly known as the PTA Men's Essay contest.)

  • WSPTA Scholarship program - for graduating seniors from Washington state public high schools with an active PTA. The online form is located on the website and submissions are due by March 1, 2020.

  • WSPTA//Game Development Competition - a STEM program for students in grades 9-12 (with limited access for grades 7-8) who share their knowledge of computer science based on a theme. Date change! Students need only submit the final product by March 1, 2020 through the online form.
Yearbook Sales are Open!
Good news! The second yearbook sales window is now open! Pre-order your student's yearbook for $65. Purchases can be made before school or during lunches from the bookkeeper, or online through Parent Access. There is NO ability to purchase from the bookkeeper after school.

The sales will run through February 7. This is the last chance to pre-order a yearbook. Otherwise, the price will increase to $75 and will be sold on a first-come-first-served basis during distribution at the end of the year. We ran out last year, so don't wait - BUY NOW!

If you are unsure a yearbook has been purchased for your student, you can verify in Parent Access through your purchase history.

Midyear Reports for Seniors
If your senior applied to colleges using SENDedu or the Common Application or requested a midyear report be sent through Coalition, counselors will automatically send the midyear report including an updated transcript that reflects first semester. As soon as grades are final and posted on transcripts, counselors will complete these reports.

Second Semester Schedules Now Available Online
Students were able to view their second semester schedule as of January 24. If your student would like to change a semester elective, they need to download the " Schedule Change Request Form ," complete it, and turn it in to the Counseling Center before 3:00 pm on Friday, January 31 . If the counselor can make the change, students will be able to view their new schedule online. As always, schedule change requests based on teacher choice, teacher style, or lunch assignments will NOT be considered. There is a list of semester electives available outside the Counseling Center. At this time, counselors are not available for individual meetings.
Registration for 2020-2021
LWHS registration for the 2020-2021 school year is now complete. All students will receive a confirmation registration sheet in mid-March to make any changes to the classes that they selected. All they have to do is simply draw a line through the class they no longer want to take and write down the class that they do want to take. Legible handwriting is appreciated.

Just a quick reminder that counselors will be visiting the middle schools over the next two weeks to complete their registration. We will also be registering our choice school students and private school students.
With the end of the semester, schedule changes, registration, mid-year reports, etc, it is a very busy time of year! Counselors appreciate everyone’s patience as we place students in appropriate classes and prepare our seniors for meeting their final graduation requirements.
