WSPTA Game Development Competition
The WSPTA Game Development Competition is a STEM-based program, introduced in 2016, to encourage and support student success. Students in grades 9-12 may participate and share their knowledge of computer science based on an assigned theme. The purpose is to provide an opportunity for students, either individually or in teams of up to six members, to use their creative talents and express themselves by developing a computer game. Students’ submissions are judged in the following areas: game of the year, arts and animation, game design, programming (code), and audio design. Prizes are awarded for each category. The theme for the 2018-2019 competition is Time.

Homecoming Dance Donations Needed
The annual LW Homecoming dance will take place on the night of October 13th. LW Leadership would very much appreciate any help if parents would be able to give food donations and refreshments for this event. You can view a list of needed items here. Please drop off any donation items between 4-6pm on the night of the dance in the commons.

The Homecoming Dance will take place on Saturday evening from 8 to 10pm in the LWHS Commons. The theme this year is Hollywood Golden Age. The suggested attire for this dance is semi-formal, but if anyone prefers casual attire that is okay as well. Tickets for the dance will be sold at the school's cashier after school and during lunch. Tickets are $18 with ASB card, $20 without ASB, and $25 at the door. Students are reminded that a coat check will be available for coats and purses, but backpacks and other bags are generally not allowed.

Do you have a Senior applying to college?
Is your student ready for their College Admission Interview?
College Application Workshop provides trained volunteers to assist with essay and personal statement editing every Wednesday during ROO and after school (12:55) in the College and Career Center. Encourage your student to join us for editing support and a snack!

College Application Workshop is now offering help in preparing for college interviews. Many colleges offer an interview -- on campus, over Skype, or in person with an admission representative or an alumni. Doing the interview gives colleges another opportunity to learn about your student. Interview prep is provided by an experienced volunteer who has performed college interviews for a highly selective university. She’ll share her expertise and help your student feel confident in their interview skills. This service is available every WEDNESDAY after school, at 12:55.

October is Disability Awareness month! Did you know the Lake Washington School District and the LW PTSA Council offers several resources to support parents of students with special needs or learning challenges?
The Lake Washington PTSA Special Needs Group is made up of parents in Lake Washington School District whose children receive special services (IEPs) and accommodations (504s). The group also welcomes interested staff and students. The group meets every school month except for December and June and hears from speakers, learns about resources in the community, networks with other parents and keeps updated on district and PTSA issues affecting children with disabilities. The group also has an extensive lending library. To learn more about the group and other helpful information, view their flyer here. You may also join the Lake Washington PTSA Council Special Needs Group listserv on Yahoo and receive email reminders of meetings, notices of new meeting topics, and periodic “Information for You” summaries of special needs related events happening in the community!
