Join PTSA Today!
PTSA at LWHS is supporting our students and staff in new ways in a virtual world, as well as maintaining some of our family favorite programs. We continue to support teachers, staff, students and families, even when we aren’t in physical classrooms. Your annual membership allows us to help support even more of our students and teachers. Join today to be a part of this amazing organization!

In addition to membership fees, the main PTSA fundraiser of the year is our "Pass the Pouch" fundraiser. Through this initiative, the LWHS PTSA is able to support a variety of programs for:
  • Students: grants for classroom and club activities, enrichment programs (College Prep workshops, College Application support, practice SAT and ACT tests), recognition, scholarship assistance and supplies
  • Teachers/staff: classroom grants and staff appreciation events
  • Parents & community: Emergency Prep supplies, newsletters, community events and meetings

Membership Prize Drawing! Every membership purchased before September 30 will be entered in a drawing for a “School From Home” basket. Your basket will include a Ring Light for fabulous looking video classes, a Power Bank for on-the-go charging, useful school supplies, tasty snacks, and more fun surprises!

SAT and ACT Practice Tests are Back!
LWHS PTSA is once again partnering with Princeton Review to give students the opportunity to take SAT and ACT practice tests. This year, due to the COVID situation, the practice tests will be conducted online.

The practice tests are created from original SAT/ACT tests from past years. They are a great way for your student to get comfortable with the format and style of the SAT or ACT. Students who take the test will also be invited to a strategy session that provides tips and tricks for better performance in the actual test.

The online practice tests will occur:
  • SAT: Saturday, October 10 with Strategy Session October 20
  • ACT: Saturday, October 17 with Strategy Session October 27
Don’t let your student miss this opportunity. Sign up for free! Registration must be completed before October 6.
Reflections Arts Competition
Get your student’s creative juices flowing for this year’s Reflections competition. The theme is I Matter Because…
What Is Reflections? A national arts competition offered through the LWHS PTSA. Students enter a piece of art that goes through a judging process at the high school level with the potential to advance to the Council, State and National level.
What are the Art Categories? Visual Arts (2D only), Music Composition, Photography, Literature, Film Production and Dance Choreography. There is also a Special Artist Division (for students with disabilities).

Who can participate? Any student attending LWHS.
How to get started? Review the Rules for the art category and the Checklist for Success, both located on the PTSA website under Student Programs: Reflections. Reflect on the theme. Create a piece of art. Submit the art* along with a completed Student Entry Form (a fillable PDF) also located on the website. Note: signatures are not required on Entry Form.
*What is new this year? Students will be submitting entries online: Visual Arts & Photography (JPG/JPEG/PNG format); Literature (PDF format); Dance & Film (MP4 and AVI format); Music Composition (MP3 and WAV); Entry Forms (fillable PDF). Upload location will be announced soon. The Reflections Chair will provide help to any students who is deterred by submitting entries online.
When is the deadline? Monday, November 2 by end of day.

PTSA Gets Creative for First Staff Appreciation Event
LWHS PTSA welcomed staff back to school with gift bags for each staff member including a Starbucks gift card and lip balm. The staff lounge was decorated with flowers and outfitted with a new single serve coffee maker and some grab and go snacks. It wasn’t the traditional back to school breakfast we like to provide but it was the next best thing.

We are going to have to get creative this year in our efforts to recognize all the hard work of our staff and administrators. If you are interested in participating in our Staff Appreciation efforts please email: or sign up to volunteer on the PTSA website.

Thanks to our PTSA Staff Appreciation chairs for leading these efforts and our generous Pass the Pouch donors how help make programs like this possible!
Advocacy - Let's Assemble!
Washington State PTA 42nd Legislative Assembly (Virtual)
October 24-25, 2020
The annual legislative assembly is a great opportunity to advocate for the success of each child - the whole child. LWHS PTSA appoints voting delegates, but any PTSA member, including students, are welcome to attend and listen. We will provide our voice and input into matters such as:
  • Washington State PTA's top 5 legislative priorities for 2020-2022
  • Other supported items in the legislative platform
  • Attend educational sessions to learn about proposed issues and resolutions and about advocacy at all levels - state, district and local
  • Participate in caucusing and debate and share ideas

You can also let our delegates know what topics are most important to you by completing this survey before October 9, 2020.

LWHS Curriculum Night and Club Fair Virtual Events
Curriculum Night - Wednesday, September 30
Our virtual Curriculum Night will be held September 30. The event will provide pre-recorded videos from each teacher, introducing themselves and their class. Each parent/guardian will receive an email from their student with links to each Welcome Page in OneNote, where the videos will be available to watch. The parent/guardian emails will be created by the students in Homeroom on September 29. If you do not not receive an email from your student on September 29, you can find instructions on the LWHS website and social media accounts on how to access the Welcome Pages.

Club Fair - Friday, October 2
The virtual Club Fair for students will be held in Homeroom on October 2. We are currently working on how to give parents and guardians access to the Club Fair content. Look for that information in the near future on the LWHS website and social media accounts.

Advanced Placement (AP) Exam Information for 2020-21
This year, the AP exam registration process will occur in two steps:
  • Step 1: Lake Washington High School students must sign up for AP Classrooms. Students will sign up in their AP class with the guidance of their AP teacher. They will ‘join’ the class which will allow them access to AP Classroom course material, a resource that will be accessed by their teacher during the course. Every student will need to sign up to have access. All students should mark ‘yes’ they plan to test. College Board has suspended the cancellation fee for the 2020-21 school year, so students may cancel an exam at any time. Students should complete this task by September 25.
  • Step 2: The second part is to actually pay for the exams. The payment window for all exams will be October 1 through October 30, 2020. Information on the payment process will be published soon. If students have not signed up for AP Classrooms, we will not be able to order an exam for them. Exam fees are $96 per exam. AP Capstone (Seminar and Research) exam fees are $144 per exam.

In addition, LWSD is offering late registration from February 16 to February 26, 2021.
  • Late registrations have a $50 per exam late fee in addition to the $96 exam fee.
  • Details on the late AP registration process (February 16-26) will be available in December.
  • After February 26, we will not accept ANY registrations/payments – no exceptions.

LWHS Sports - Registration Now Open!
Lake Washington High School, along with all schools in the KingCo Conference, will participate in the WIAA’s adjusted seasons. See the LWHS Athletics website for information on the season start dates and sports planned for each season.

We urge all families to register NOW for the sports in which their students intend to participate (or are considering participating). Registration is completed through Final Forms. Both parents AND students must each sign in to their accounts and complete the registration paperwork. If you have never signed into Final Forms, look for the “never signed in?” link in the fine print of the log-in window after clicking either Parent or Student.

Payments for ASB membership and sport participation are NOT being collected at this time. Please ignore the directions in Final Forms indicating that payment is needed. We will collect payments at the actual start of the sports seasons.

The Lake Washington Schools Foundation
Invest in our students. Invest in our future.

The Lake Washington Schools Foundation gathers and deploys community resources to enhance academic access and to nurture all students’ emotional well-being. Some ways they do this is through programming such as Balance in Mind, emotional support; Find Your Fit, a college-prep program for students and their families; Kids Coming Together, a program that helps students grades 3-8 form lasting connections with peers led by older students; LINKS, a mentoring program that matches a caring adult with students who could benefit; and Pantry Packs, a program that provides weekend meals for students experiencing food-insecurity.
