Showing Gratitude for Our Teachers and Staff
This time of year, many of us pause to be thankful and express our gratitude. Please consider reaching out to a teacher or staff member this season with a quick email of encouragement or thanks for all they are doing to support your student! A short, personal message from a family can mean a lot to a teacher or staff member. Find email addresses in the LWHS Staff Directory.

Speaking of Gratitude...
LWHS PTSA shows appreciation for our terrific LWHS staff and teachers throughout the school year. If you would like to see all the creative ways we support them, please email staff appreciation chairs Anne and Linda at [email protected] to be added to their contact list.

Fall Grants from the PTSA
One of the ways that the PTSA supports our school community is by funding grants that provide educational enrichment, and support club activities, social events, and social and emotional well-being. This fall, LWHS PTSA has funded three grants:
  • Spanish-language novels for silent reading time during the Spanish for Native Speakers class. Building a classroom library will provide a greater variety of Spanish texts for students.
  • A donation to the cost of hosting the Unspoken Truths Traveling Museum, which will provide an engaging program for our juniors studying US History and an exhibition for the wider school community.
  • The Signs of Suicide program that will be presented to students during Health classes by the school counselors, to educate students about the signs of suicide and provide them with tools to help themselves and others when they recognize the signs.

Many thanks to the committee members who gave their time to review the grant applications, and to the members whose donations to the PTSA provided funds for these grants.

From the Desk of LWHS Principal Christine Bell
Dear Kang Families,

As we near the Thanksgiving break I want to share with you a few things I am thankful for.

I am thankful to you for your support of our students, especially as we have had to adjust to coming back to in-person schooling and changing COVID guidelines. I am also thankful to our students for their flexibility and enthusiasm for school and extracurricular activities. The energy in our student body has been without parallel and it influences all of us. Our fall sports and homecoming event showed us that we can pivot when needed while still celebrating what makes us a community.

I am also grateful to our staff for their commitment to supporting our students in the social and emotional needs. The faculty and staff at LWHS work to make an environment that is as inclusive and representative as possible, considering student voice in both curriculum and classroom norms. As we work to focus on attendance and cell phone policy it is clear that our teachers continue to adjust as needed to provide support for students. This, combined with our high expectations for student learning, creates an environment in which students excel.

In November we celebrate not only Thanksgiving, but also Election Day and Veteran's Day. Our student leadership, Kang News, student newspaper (The Pouch) and clubs all do an excellent job of highlighting these two days. I am thankful to our students for their leadership.

I hope that you all have a restful holiday break and enjoy time with your families. Fall is by far my favorite time of year and I wish you all a cozy and warm November.

With warm regard,

LWHS Principal
