School

From the Desk of LWHS Principal Christine Bell

Dear Kang Families,

There are a couple of important areas I want to highlight this week.

First, thank you to our parents who donated and helped with setup for the St. Patrick's Day staff appreciation day. Our staff is honored to be appreciated by our community.

Next, I need to share information on our parking lots. Students have to purchase parking passes. There are not enough parking spaces for all of our students who drive. I understand that this is inconvenient for students. That said, our seniors and juniors who purchased passes at the beginning of the school year need to have access to parking. Some of them come and go during the day as they travel to other programs. Not having a spot to park when they return delays their arrival to school.

Every spring we have the same problem. Sophomores who get their licenses want to park and there are no available passes. Our security team has been working hard ticketing these vehicles. We deal with daily reports that there is not enough parking, and that cars without passes are parked in staff spots. Please, talk with your students about this. This is a serious problem, and it takes away from the other areas that I want our security team to focus on.

I also want to ask you to support us with your students' attendance. We work to ensure that our campus is only open for students to come and go during lunch. As it gets sunnier, we notice students leaving campus during Roo Time when they should be accessing a study environment. We also saw students leave campus when it was time to go to the assembly. Our school provides a college-like environment. Students have some autonomy and agency in their education. When this is taken advantage of we need to remind students that our primary concern is safety and that leaving campus during academic time is not a responsible choice.

On a lighter note, a parent noted the other day that they would like to see more spirit weeks. The beauty of a spirit week is that we see commonality in our community. I want to invite you to support this effort. Our ASB leaders have a planned spirit week this week:

Monday: PJ Day

Tuesday: Color Wars (9th-green, 10th-blue, 11th-white, 12th-purple, LOUD-staff)

Wednesday: Spring Day (Wear floral/pastel colors)

Thursday: Mini me (Dress up as your younger self)

Friday: Purple and White Day

It is fun to see our staff participate in spirit weeks alongside our student body. Please remind your student that these are days to celebrate being a member of the LWHS community. After all, it is truly a wonderful thing to be a Kang.

Thank you for all you do to support our learning community.
