School

From the Desk of LWHS Principal Christine Bell

Dear Kang Families,

Now that school is underway, I want to share a few tips with you.

Please be sure to include your student’s first and last name when emailing the school. That saves us the step of looking a student up in our system by parent email addresses. Thank you for your assistance with this.

Also, it is important to read the syllabus sent home by each teacher. We try to post these in ParentSquare so that you can get them in digest form rather than as separate emails. Syllabi explain grading procedures, overall course objectives and they help you get to know your student’s teachers. Attending Curriculum Night on Wednesday, September 13th is also an opportunity to meet teachers. Curriculum Night is an open house and our families can come in from 5:30-7:00pm that evening.

Please note that we included AI in our academic dishonesty policy this year. Please talk with your students about ensuring that they submit only their own original work in school. Not doing so will result in academic consequences and potentially in detention as well.

Students in the Lake Washington School District are issued laptops each year. They must use these laptops and not other, non-school provided devices while in class. Any devices that need repair can be taken to the library. The library has devices that can be loaned out as needed.

Please understand that not all schedule change requests can be honored. Our classes are very full and counselors are doing their best with what is available.

Our teachers have shared with me that the first week of school has been great. Students are excited and it is creating a culture of positivity already. Thank you for your support.

PTSA Staff Appreciation

On August 29th, PTSA volunteers were hard at work preparing and serving a back-to-school luncheon for all our wonderful LWHS teachers, administration and staff. We presented baked potatoes with all the fixings plus a make-your-own nacho bar served alongside watermelon, grapes, broccoli and cake.

We hope people left happy, full and ready to begin the new school year on a positive note!

PTSA volunteers have also been busy helping out with Freshman picture day and first day of school Picture Day. If you are interested in helping out our community, please sign up for volunteering or email our volunteer coordinator directly.

Dear Lake Washington High School Families,

We want to redefine what PTA means to you. It's not just a noun; it's a dynamic verb, an action plan dedicated to ensuring your student's success.

There's no one-size-fits-all approach to PTA. However you choose to engage, it's an investment in your child's future. PTA can mean supporting your child's teachers and educational programs, advocating for issues that affect your child at local, state, and national levels, and fostering a more robust, diverse, and inclusive school community.

We extend an open invitation to every family to get involved with PTA because together, we can achieve more.

Membership fees and donations are the lifeblood of our organization, and our annual "Pass the Pouch" campaign is our sole fundraiser.

Partnerships between parents, educators, and students are key to student success. We recognize that students thrive when the entire school community collaborates to share ideas and work on projects that benefit them.

Lake Washington PTSA organizes programs that directly benefit our students. By becoming a member, you play a pivotal role in turning these plans into reality. We also welcome your fresh ideas for the betterment of our students.

Join us in making a meaningful impact on our students' education, health, and well-being.

For more information about the PTSA, please don't hesitate to contact Susan Davis, Membership Chair, at membership@lwhsptsa.org, or our PTSA President, Colleen Rutherford, at president@lwhsptsa.org.

We eagerly anticipate welcoming YOU as a valued member!

Warm regards,

Susan Davis

PTSA Reminders

LWHS PTSA General Membership Meeting - Wed, Sept 20th

Presentation: What to expect in each grade level

Our first General Membership Meeting of the year will be held in the LWHS Library on Wednesday, September 20th beginning at 7:00pm.

Please join us to meet the new PTSA board members and learn about the focus areas for this school year. We will review and approve both the annual budget and standing rules. Additionally, learn what should be expected in each grade year during a presentation detailing the four high school years and when major considerations apply.

Free SAT/ACT Practice Tests

LWHS PTSA is partnering with Princeton Review to give students the opportunity to take the SAT or ACT just “for practice” at no cost. Students can take this practice test any number of times and the scores from these do not go on their record.

Students take the tests online at a date and time that is convenient, within the time window below:

  1. Register by September 19th for the test in the "SAT/ACT Practice Tests" section of the lwhsptsa.org/Programs website.
  2. Online test taking window September 23rd – October 8th

Note: If your student has taken an earlier practice test, they can take it again. However, please note that the set of questions will be the same.
