From the Desk of LWHS Principal Christine Bell

Dear Kang Families,

We enter this holiday break at a time when our students are ready for time off. High school is complex and can, at times, be exhausting. Students spent last week demonstrating learning and preparing to take a break before jumping into new content. Our musicians, thespians, athletes, and club members have spent extra hours outside of the school day over the past few weeks and we are grateful to them for creating opportunities for us to gather. It is important to remember that although they are teenagers, they sometimes have more responsibilities and commitments than we do as adults.

We know that the last few months have been a tumultuous time for many of our families. The world rarely seems like a safe space, and this is particularly true for members of our community who have ties to countries and peoples at war. We can count our blessings that our school and our community are places of love and respect, and places where we are safe to celebrate our differences. There is no room at Lake Washington High School for intolerance or discrimination. Our staff members are safe people to turn to when students feel a need to report their concerns. We treat every report of harassment, intimidation and bullying seriously.

You can help us by talking about this at home. As you discuss issues that are politically divisive you can encourage your students to consider other views and remind them of the universality of the human condition. We are all in this together and the future has to be a more peaceful and just world.

By demonstrating the Kang Commitments of Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Safety and Relationships our students can together stand against all forms of discrimination.

Our staff are truly incredible. They seek out opportunities to connect with students and to help students build relationships with their peers. They also strive to create a learning environment that allows for productive discourse while also protecting the rights of all students.

I wish you a restful holiday with your loved ones.

Warmly,

Christine Bell

Free SAT/ACT Practice Tests

LWHS PTSA is partnering with Princeton Review for a second time this school year to give students the opportunity to take the SAT or ACT just “for practice” at no cost. Students can take this practice test any number of times and the scores from these do not go on their record.

Students take the tests online at a date and time that is convenient, within the time window below:

  1. Register by January 19th for the test in the "SAT/ACT Practice Tests" section of the lwhsptsa.org/Programs website.
  2. Online test taking window January 24th – February 24th

Note: If your student has taken an earlier practice test, they can take it again. However, please note that the set of questions will be the same.
