Ask us about our Summer Swim Lessons!

Children, ages 3 and older, who are fully potty trained, may participate in this 10-week session of swimming lessons. Lessons begin the last full week of June. Children who participate in summer lessons have the option of one, two, or three lessons per week. Lessons include open swim.

Why Children Need to Spend Time Outdoors

Children need time outdoors for a multitude of reasons, impacting their physical health, mental well-being, cognitive development, and social skills. Spending time in nature fosters physical activity, reduces stress, enhances creativity, and promotes a sense of wonder. These days, children spend much more time inside, mostly to technology. Spending time outdoors isn’t just enjoyable — it’s also necessary. Many researchers agree that kids who play outside are happier, better at paying attention, and less anxious than kids who spend more time indoors.

Spending time in nature can build their confidence. There’s a lot less structure than most types of indoor play and they can choose how they interact with the nature around them. This gives them practice managing their own actions and encourages creativity and imagination.

Being outdoors can also teach them responsibility. For example, if they are in charge of watering a plant, they can learn that they must take care of living things to keep them alive.

Being outside gets kids moving, too. Regardless of what they’re doing, there’s usually more exercise involved than if they were sitting on the couch. Not only is exercise good for kids’ bodies, it seems to make them more focused. Being outside also helps kids feel less stressed.

Our Garden

Our garden is doing so well! The children have been busy helping grow green beans, pumpkins, tomatoes, and herbs.

When young children help in the garden, they gain a wide range of developmental benefits. Gardening supports fine motor skills such as children dig, plant seeds, and water, strengthening the small muscles needed for writing and self-care. It also provides rich sensory experiences feeding soil, smelling herbs, seeing plants grow, and even tasting what they harvest. Through hands-on exploration, children learn about nature, plant life cycles, weather, and insects, which builds early science knowledge. Working together in the garden encourages social skills like cooperation, taking turns, and communicating with others. It also helps children develop responsibility and patience as they care for living things over time. Additionally, gardening builds language and vocabulary as children describe what they see and do. Perhaps one of the most rewarding benefits is that children are often more willing to try new vegetables they’ve helped grow themselves, promoting healthy eating habits that can last a lifetime.

Parking Lot

For Licensing and safety purposes, we are asking everyone NOT to keep their car running in the parking lot during the summer or winter months.

Sunscreen

Remember, DHS now requires written parental permission for us to put sunscreen on your child. Please sign the form in your child's class.  Please apply the first round of sunscreen before your child comes to school and teachers will apply again before going outside in the afternoon.
