Dear friends,
Last summer, on August 2, Kansans showed the world how powerful our voices are, overwhelmingly voting to protect our state constitution’s protections for abortion rights. In a resounding repeat of our special election, voters across the country — in states as politically and geographically diverse as California, Kentucky, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, and Vermont — all followed suit to defend or enshrine their right to bodily autonomy and self-determination.
Kansans sent a strong message to politicians: Protect abortion rights. Now, we must do our part and continue to rally and engage our supporters, and hold lawmakers accountable.
The Kansas Abortion Fund has seen an incredible surge in support in the last six months, especially in the weeks following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, and again after the Aug. 2 special election. Because of your generosity, we’ve been able to:
- Deepen our collaboration with Midwest Access Coalition, an organization providing practical support to Kansans needing assistance with transportation costs, lodging, and meals.
- Significantly boost our funding to patients who must travel out-of-state.
-
Formalize our partnership with Just The Pill, who operates a mobile clinic on the Colorado/Kansas border.
- Increase the number of Kansans that we are able to serve by raising our eligibility limit from 110% of the Federal Poverty Level to 150% — in other words, those who make approximately $1,700 per month or less.
- Help more than 430 Kansans access abortion, and control their bodies and their futures.
There will certainly be challenges in the year ahead. But, no matter what the future brings, the Kansas Abortion Fund will continue to break down barriers and provide financial support to Kansans seeking abortion care.
The incredible work that the team at KAF has done this year, amidst all of the heartbreak and loss we have been through, has only been possible because of you. We thank you, profoundly, for your generous support, as do all the folks we’ve been able to serve.
Stay safe, healthy, and take good care of each other.
In solidarity,
Sandy Brown
President
