Once again, in the 2023 elections, voters like those in Ohio, decisively showed that Americans support abortions rights, even when their elected leaders do not. While state legislatures across the country continue to make it harder to access abortion care by enacting bans and unnecessary restrictions that target the most vulnerable people in need of abortion care, generous donors like you have stepped up to help people surmount these ever-increasing obstacles.
Patients living in surrounding states that have criminalized abortion have forced people to travel to Kansas to receive basic reproductive health care. In the first six months of 2023, the number of abortions rose 114%. The dramatic increase in demand for abortion care in Kansas has put a strain on both abortion providers and Kansans who often must travel out of state simply to access an appointment. Your continued support is vital as we adapt to this new “normal” and work together to try to meet this unprecedented need that has been unjustly created by the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe.
The Kansas Abortion Fund is weathering the post-Roe storm, and we have some stunning numbers to share with you, which reflect the magnitude of the change we are experiencing:
- KAF has served 900 Kansans this year, compared to 431 at this time last year (a rate 2.09 times of what KAF assisted with last year, marking an increase of 109%).
- KAF partners with 15 clinics, compared to 4 in 2022.
- KAF has ELIMINATED all income eligibility requirements to better serve any Kansan in need of assistance.
Kansas has proven to be a bellwether of state change since the Supreme Court dismantled abortion rights in 2022, but we must keep vigilant as we move forward. First and foremost, THANK YOU for your generous and diligent giving this past year. We could not be more grateful.
Please help KAF continue to fulfill our vision of providing funding and a voice for all Kansans in need of abortion care. Together we are doing enormous work in Kansas.
