What is the Technology Innovation Center?
The Kansas SBDC helps innovators and inventors evolve from the Idea stage to the Commercialization & Launch stage.

While the Kansas SBDC has always helped entrepreneurs launch their new business ideas, the Kansas SBDC Tech Innovation Center specializes in helping advise and connect people who have innovative ideas to the government or private entities that can use and or fund those ideas.

Current Technology Center clients have presented at the Encountering Innovation conference which attracts Department of Defense technology scouts. Clients have also previously attended the Rural & Independent Innovator's Conference where rural innovators can find the resources needed to further expand ideas and business.

Kansas SBDC Client Shout Out
RSVP Med Spa
RSVP Med Spa is owned by Selena Fu, MD, and has a beautiful location in Overland Park, KS. With her background in ophthalmic plastic surgery, Dr. Fu exceeds the typical spa treatment services, by offering reconstructive procedures for droopy eyelids, eyelid tumor excisions, orbital fracture repairs, and lacrimal/tear duct surgeries. RSVP Med Spa also offers blepharoplasty/eyelid lift, removal of eye “bags” or excess eyelid skin, eyebrow lift, injection of Botox, fillers, such as Juvéderm, and cosmetic facial rejuvenation treatments.

With a wide variety of services, there is no doubt that she is meeting her goal of providing excellent personalized patient care in all areas of eye care. However, her goals did not stop there. Another goal that was crucial for her business was receiving funding. She knew the KSBDC was the right place to receive professional guidance, and through their help Dr. Fu achieved her goal of receiving funding. She also made sure to credit Vince Haworth, the director of Capital Access Center (CAC) which is a part of the Kansas Small Business Development Center (SBDC) for his tremendous guidance and support.

“He guided me every step of the way,” said Dr. Fu. “And he cared about my personal growth just as much as he cared about my business. He reached out to a lot of different lenders on my behalf and offered me great advice. He was also very personable, and every few days they made sure to check in on me.”

Dr. Fu noted that the work that goes into a business is far from easy, but well worth it, and she advises others to, “Always make sure to verify your steps.”
