The Kansas Small Business Development Center offers services and training for every stage of your business: whether you're starting a business, or taking the steps to help grow or protect your business.

  • Cybersecurity training: Cybersecurity has become a very serious issue that more and more small businesses are becoming aware of. The Kansas SBDC can help you understand the risks that many businesses face. We can provide tips on how you can avoid becoming a victim in a cyberattack and help you create a plan to protect your business.
  • Protecting Intellectual Property through Patents, Trademarks, and Copyrights: A thought that comes to mind for many entrepreneurs and business owners is how to protect your work. If you're in need of a trademark or patent, your advisor can walk you through the steps you need to take to ensure you protect your intellectual property.
  • Disaster Recovery through Business Continuity Plans: Whether a Cyber attack or other disaster, it's important for businesses to have a continuity plan in place to mitigate the negative impact of any type of business interruption, such as natural disasters, fire, or theft. The Kansas SBDC can advise you on continuity strategies including obtaining capital during and after the event, finding ways for your business to stay connected throughout a disaster, and more.

Kansas SBDC Client Spotlight

Erin Hammel approached Kansas SBDC to help devise an effective and efficient plan for her business. Hammel connected with SBDC Advisor, Les Streit, who walked her through the business plan by giving the client a checklist of things that needed to get done prior to opening the doors. “SBDC helped me get the ball rolling, from setting up an account with KDOR, filing for my LLC, to tiny details of my menu and hours of operation,” Erin shared.

Hammel was successful in securing adequate knowledge for her business and was successful in developing an effective and efficient business plan. Happy Hippie works to bring the world of health, beauty, and fitness together to create a wholesome and joyful environment. The business makes sure that all the clients feel a deep love for themselves on the inside, then projects that love outwards. Erin emphasized what she finds crucial in her business, she said, “I value consistency and quality in my products. I want each and every smoothie, coffee, acai bowl, whatever it might be, to be made the exact same every time we serve it. Success for me is giving people in rural America access to fresh and healthy food.” Her advice to new businesses is to utilize social media. She said, “Social media is the best free advertisement that you can use. Make it a priority to post every day!”
