President's Message
Welcome to our new year! And the mid-way point in our IMA program year! A big thank you to those who attended our CPE events in 2020 and encouragement to everyone as you consider our 2021 CPE Events. We also hope to have non-CPE and networking events, virtually, as 2021 continues.

A new year brings the opportunity to use the token for 2 CPEs of Ethics from IMA. Watch for this no cost benefit as 2021 continues. Our local chapter CPE events are focusing on messaging and other forms of communication, so important for all business, finance and accounting professionals!

Please say great things about IMA! Encourage others to join our chapter. Member benefits are described at the web site https://www.imanet.org/membership/benefits?ssopc=1 Explain to students how IMA membership enhances their resume and builds a great networking platform: https://www.imanet.org/students/student-membership?ssopc=1

We sincerely miss our in person events and look forward to better days ahead as 2021 continues. Virtual events, however, are now the best way to reach our members and meet our common goals!

In other news, check out the latest edition of our Strategic Finance IMA Magazine: https://sfmagazine.com/ Notably consider the reporting of sustainability and other concepts toward the triple bottom line with articles such as Financial and Sustainable Reporting Converge The language of accounting is expanding! Be part of the conversation with our IMA community!

Thank you for your support of our IMA local chapter and participation in activities!

Ethical Communications Part 4:

Facts and Not Fiction

Speaker: Keegan Maguigan, Senior Auditor, Government Accountability Office
January 27, 2021
6:00 PM to 7:00 PM

In Part 1 of our series, Tom Dean's lead off message was that "truth can't be relative" and in Part 2, Leigha Kiger took us on a grand tour of using Plain English writing techniques when communicating with your audience. Building on both themes in Part 3, Lauren Laurie focused on taking your ego out of communications and avoiding hyperbole. Now in Part 4, Keegan Maguigan takes us deeper into how we should communicate the facts no matter how cold or hard they may be in order to reveal the truth. Upon completing this session, you will:

  • Realize the importance of evidence driven communication
  • Improve your critical thinking to overcome inherent biases
  • Identify and assess processes that generate information to assess degree of reliability
  • Encourage action without exaggerating a crisis
  • Succeed at communication.
