Dear Members,
Please join us as we open our 2017/2018 program year with CPE at the Park, in Hains Point Park on the 3rd Wednesday of July (July 19) and of August (August 16). Our topics focus on career management, communication, and leadership.
Saturday August 26 is our annual Hains Point Picnic catered by Famous Dave’s. Please encourage others to join us. For all events, students are encouraged to attend. Our annual picnic is a casual family event so please; try to include us in your weekend schedule!
Thank you to all members who participated in the June IMA Annual Conference and Exposition in Denver, CO. We were very well represented. Consider planning to attend the event next June in Indianapolis, IN, as it is a great CPE and networking event.
Our members make us strong, so again, thank you for your support and encouragement of others!
Sincerely,
Kathleen Sobieralski
President

Over the next 6 months, IMA Global is requiring all Chapter and Council websites to move into the Global framework. Our chapter was one of the first to transition to the imanet.org platform. We hope you find this integrated solution easier to use for all your IMA needs.

Boardroom Notes: Your Global IMA Update
|
|
|
(Click on the ACE2017 photo above for video highlights from the conference.)
ACE2017, IMA’s Annual Conference & Expo, took place two weeks ago in Denver. With over 900 participants, this one far surpassed all others I have attended in every respect. From FUBU founder and Shark Tank co-star Daymond John’s dynamic opening address on Achieving Your Goals, to Travelocity and Kayak.com founder Terry Jones’ closing presentation Disruption Off – Innovation On!, the topics, the quality of the speakers, and the networking opportunities exceeded all expectations. As the management accounting landscape changes, this event continues to evolve to meet IMA members’ needs.
This year’s conference featured eight “specialty tracks”, designed to allow participants to more closely align their session selections with their professional development needs. A popular new initiative was “Career Central”, which offered an array of complimentary services including one-on-one coaching with management accounting experts, a photographer taking professional head shots, and a LinkedIn expert.
A “Membership Mingle” and a “Beers with Peers” event at a local brewery provided new opportunities re-establish old contacts and make new ones.
While members learned, family and guests enjoyed a day at the Denver Zoo.
A truly inspiring moment occurred with the screening of the amazing video that won the “CMA First” video contest, and the recognition of the talented students who produced it and who traveled from the Philippines to participate in the Conference.
Another highlight followed the next day– we enrolled our 90,000th member!
|
|
|
The final Board meeting of the year took place immediately prior to the Conference.
Highlights included:
- The CMA program continues to grow rapidly, with over 25,000 active CMAs as of the end of May.
- The CSCA™ (Certified in Strategy and Competitive Analysis), the new specialty credential designed specifically for CMAs, was launched in May, and the first testing window will be in September.
- IMA published its first textbook, “Management Accounting: An Integrative Approach”, designed to address the longstanding talent gap in management accounting and finance.
Planning is well underway for IMA’s Student Leadership Conference taking place November 9-11 in Houston– stay tuned for more details!
