It's Champing at the Bit
not "chomping"
|
|
In case you care, the phrase "Champing at the bit" refers to the action of horses biting down on a bit (the piece that goes in their mouth) when it is uncomfortable. As more and more people mis-hear and then incorrectly repeat the phrase as "chomping at the bit," that pronunciation has become more common.
Nevertheless, the very correct thing to say is: I'm champing at the bit to get back on the road!
I have airfare and hotel booked for my Providence, RI roadshow in September. I'm just working to finalize the meeting room.
As for Canada and the UK, I'm waiting for quarantine restrictions to disappear.
. . . In the meantime, I'm headed to Nashville soon for personal travel. And I'll be speaking at NexGen LIVE is LA in October. With luck, a few vendors will start asking me to attend their shows soon. It's been more than a year, after all.

Calendar updates . . . Several Channel Company events added
I've added a handful of Xchange and other ChannelCo events to the calendar - from August of this year through March of 2022. AND, I'll be speaking at the Anaheim event in October. Join me live!
IOTSSA is also announcing live dates. I've added the Cybersecurity Expo for Sept 16th in Charlotte, NC. They are also teasing a November event in Phoenix and a January event in Tampa. See the link in the calendar below. More details coming soon.
Datto finally made it official: DattoCon will be in Seattle. We've had the unofficial official information listed for a long time. Now it's officially official. Registration starts July 1st.

I don't think all of these pillars are universal truths through time (some are). But at this moment in history, I believe these are the things we need to focus on.

I promise: NO sales!
Our challenges include ransomware, insurance, and the legislation/regulation that's coming down the road. We literally have the choice of letting events unfold without our influence or with our influence. In other words, our choice is: We can affect the future or let it happen to us.
Vendors should have a long-term interest in these issues, but it doesn't pay their bills in the short term. Smaller vendors are hoping to survive the next twelve months. Larger vendors have investors who only care about the next calendar quarter's financials. The long-term health of the SMB IT market is beyond their horizon.
Large IT consulting companies live in a different world. They have no hope of getting ransomware under control. They give sub-standard tech support and cannot afford to protect the machines they're paid to protect. Their clients can afford the ransom, and they can afford the insurance. Altogether, nothing motivates them to take action.
It's only in the SMB space that we can actually monitor and patch every machine we're responsible for - and remediate problems when they occur. But it's at the small end of the market where insurance rate increases and government regulation will hit the hardest.
Don't let the irony be lost on you. There are 30 million small businesses in the US, and about 125 million in the world. We drive the economy. And we take a great deal of risk that simply doesn't exist in larger businesses.
