THE Topic for 2023: Employees |

Greetings!
I've done several videos this year around employees. How to find them, how to afford them, how to expand without them, etc.
When I asked Kara about what people in the Small Biz Thoughts Technology Community are looking for, her answer was exactly the same as mine - How to find and hire the right employees. We have a fair amount of information, including an employee Onboarding Roadmap, inside the community. The "need" is how to address the problem of finding good people today, and on into next year.

I've collected about five hours of videos related to hiring and managing employees (see my recent blog post), and I'm going to produce some webinars, do some research, and generally put a lot of attention on this issue in the months ahead. Stay tuned to this newsletter.
We've had a general shortage of talent in IT - especially in cybersecurity - for years. The shortfall has been around a million employees for several years. And even though that shortfall is not in SMB, we're connected to the larger universe. Amid the an expanding economy and an increased demand during the pandemic, SMB jobs finally felt the shortfall quite strongly.
And just as we got into the this slowly over years, we'll get out of it slowly over years. In the meantime, you need to start planning what you'll do and how you'll respond for the next few years.
That's why I think "All Things Employees" will be a major focus for 2023 and the years ahead.

Fall Travelogue

I keep my private life private, by the way, by not posting it on Facebook!
Friday I head to my old stomping ground - Spokane, WA - for my college reunion. I love my old Gonzaga University friends and can't wait to see them. I delayed heading to Australia just so I could attend my reunion. Look for me doing a selfie with a big Bulldog.
From there I head to Australia for the SMB IT Professionals conference. Other special guests from the U.S. include two of my favorite partners in crime - Amy Babinchak and Manuel Palachuk.
After Australia, I head to Thailand for a week of vacation in Phuket. There, I'm hanging with another old time friend. Stay tuned for notes on that. 95% vacation. (I have to get out a newsletter.)
Then I head to Singapore for a few days. I've been to the airport there, but not the actual city. So I thought I'd take a few days to look around.
I'm home for a few days and then off to Acronis #Cyberfit Summit. I'll be podcasting "live" from the show. Stay tuned for that. |

Last week, Keith Nelson, Ph.D. joined for a great conversation. Keith is with Vistem Solutions, Inc.
We started by talking about the large jobs Keith has had over the years, including the ports of LA and Long Beach, as well as the Boeing C-17 final assembly floor.
I say we started there. We continued to a great discussion of culture and keeping employees engaged. Some of you may know that Keith is very involved with various causes and charities. He's also a long-serving member of the Legislative Committee for the National Society of IT Service Providers.
