Greetings!
Looking ahead: Q4 . . . and then on to 2023!
I've got a busy Fall. I guess we all do. The economy is a bit shaky, but still growing. The US Federal Reserve is trying to raise interest rates "just enough" to create a little inflation, but not too much.
Some economists refer to this attempt as a soft landing. The idea is to get us back on track without crashing the economy. So far, the Fed has managed to do this zero times, ever. As a result, like it or not, we're probably in for a hard landing.
But we're also in an economy that really just wants to expand. With luck, that means 2023 will be a little rough, but we'll have a short recession, followed by more growth.
I have no crystal ball. I'm just guessing.

My company - Small Biz Thoughts - is planning a two-day online conference in 2023. Of course I'll still travel a bit, but no roadshow in 2023. The plan is to do a roadshow in 2024.
I also plan to get at least one new book out in 2023.
We're also planning a price increase for the Small Biz Thoughts Technology Community in July. For several years now, I've been committed to putting every new thing I do into the Community at no additional charge. So, if you're "in," you get all the new stuff free of charge.
That includes the SMB Online Conference. All Community members will get in at no additional charge! Remember, you also get all my books, all of our classes, and pretty much everything else I have at no additional charge. Most members save twice the cost of membership every year.
Existing members lock in at their current price, so only new members will feel the price increase. If you want to save an extra $100, now is a good time to lock in.
On other fronts . . .

NSITSP: First Elections Completed Successfully
I'm going to brag a bit. Feel free to keep scrolling.
I founded the National Society of IT Service Providers to help improve the entire industry. In fact, to turn the industry into a profession.
We started with nothing but a webinar dedicated to the challenges we face. I didn't have a plan - certainly not a plan to create an organization or to grow it. And certainly not to RUN it. I have a business to run. I have a job.
But my personal mission is to make as many IT consultants as possible as successful as possible. So, when the response to my first few meetings was overwhelming, I found myself creating a not-for-profit membership association.
A friend (who is extremely involved in the project) warned me: I'm not the right person to do this. My response was, "It's not about who should; it's about who DOES." So off we went.
While we've been working at this for about 18 months, last week marks a major milestone:
As of Friday, we now have a Board and Committees that are 100% elected by the membership. We are officially out of the start-up phase and on our way to a massively successful 2023.
As of Friday, we have almost 800 members and nine vendor sponsors. That may not sound like a lot, but it's really phenomenal. I have been secretly hoping we will hit 1,000 members by the end of the year. In some ways, that feels far off. But then I realize we have three months left!
And with nine vendors jumping onboard in the last month, I am sure the growth will be amazing going forward.
If you haven't become a paid professional member yet, head over to https://nsitsp.org and drop $100 today. I promise we'll make it worth your while!

Snippets
Shout out - and big thanks - to Chris Tate from Jumpcloud for listing the SMB Community Podcast on his very short list of podcasts YOU should be subscribed to!
Two quick notes about the SMB Community Podcast.
1) We are possibly the longest-running podcast in the industry. I've done three other podcast "series," but we've been the SMB Community Podcast for more than TEN years. www.smbcommunitypodcast.com
2) We have a HUGE announcement coming soon. We are retooling a bit, adding another amazing world-famous host, and creating a format that really separates us from the crowd.
Oh, and maybe 2.5, I'm doing some research and planning to do a blog post on the podcasts targeted to the SMB IT industry. Stay tuned to this newsletter, or my blog.

My personal travel update . . .
I'm headed to my college reunion at Gonzaga University in Spokane in mid-October. With luck, I'll leave there before I need a real coat, because I'm not packing one.
I fly from Spokane to Brisbane, Australia and the Gold Coast. I'm speaking at the SMB IT Pro conference. If you can, join us!
The SMB IT Pro conference is always one of my favorites and I'm very happy to be heading back this year.
Next, I'm off to spend a week in Thailand and then a few days in Singapore. Follow my adventures on Facebook. I'm hoping to see elephants and monkeys . . . but no cobras.
I fly home for a few days (like, two), and then I'm off to Florida and the Acronis #CyberFit Summit. I'm going to be joining a lot of friends - and podcasting from the conference. As always, stay tuned. More info here: https://acronis.events/summit2022/.
And then, I believe, I'll be home for a while.

Keep sending me 2023 events! We've added a bunch, but we estimate we are 300 events short. Please let us know where you're going to be.
Thanks for reading. Have a great week.

- and Our Roundtable is next week
|
The SBT Technology Community Newsletter goes out on Friday, along with the news video.
And on the First Thursday of every month we have our members-only Roundtable.
|
Russell Benaroya will be our special guest on October 6th.
Russell Benaroya is an author, entrepreneur, coach and speaker focused on helping people achieve their highest and best use by staying in their genius zones. Russell has spent the last twenty years in investment banking, private equity, and entrepreneurship and today is the cofounder of Stride Services, an outsourced accounting and strategic finance firm that helps business owners use their data for better decision making. Russell speaks on topics designed to help business leaders build more successful businesses through a combination of self-discovery and tactical financial tools.
We'll talk a bit about Russell's book, One Life to Lead. But, as always, we try to get folks to abandon their "script" and have a rock-solid business discussion on the SBT Roundtable.
